Mazda MPV, a front -wheel-drive , four-wheel drive minivan car , has been manufactured by Mazda in Japan since 1989. The model debuted in the USA, and later appeared on the European market. Initially, the car was produced in a rear-wheel drive version, such a scheme was quite suitable for American and European consumers. The car was based on the Mazda LV platform and was offered to the buyer in two versions: with a 3-door and 5-door body.
For the Japanese domestic market, the Mazda MPV model with a right-hand drive was equipped with a transfer case with a front axle and a rear differential lock, which significantly increased the car's cross-country ability. If it was necessary to maneuver, the rear axle lock was switched off and the planetary mechanism worked as usual.

- six-cylinder, with a V-shaped arrangement of cylinders, a volume of 3.0 liters, a capacity of 132 liters. from.;
- in-line, four-cylinder engine of the G5 series, with a volume of 2.5 liters, with a power of 120 l. from.
Second generation
The second generation of Mazda MPV cars (photos are placed on the page) was presented at the 1999 Frankfurt Motor Show. The car was adapted in accordance with the parameters of the Mazda LW platform, which greatly improved the exterior of the car.
The Mazda MPV model of the new generation has acquired a corporate shape, the radiator grill is in harmony with the contours of the hood and front fenders, stylish "slanted" headlights and a massive lower bumper. The interior has become more spacious, three rows of seats fit perfectly into the interior, the second row was a few centimeters higher than the front seats, and the rear row was raised, which improved visibility for passengers.
The doors of the minivan are massive, occupying the maximum possible area in relation to the sidewalls of the body. This makes it possible to freely get into the car, and a wide rear door allows you to freely load the trunk. The front doors are hinged and the rear sliding, this makes it possible to successfully park in urban conditions.
The driver's seat is height-adjustable and moves in the longitudinal plane, which allows a person of any height to sit behind the wheel. Similar adjustments are also provided to the second row seats. The rear seats unfold, forming a flat platform, or completely removed, due to which the luggage compartment is increased to 2745 liters. The Mazda MPV model, reviews of which were mostly positive, was considered a comfortable family-type car. This impression was reinforced by the possibility of arranging several beds in the passenger compartment with the seats unfolded.
The second-generation Mazda MPV car was produced with gasoline engines with a volume of 2.0 to 2.5 liters, approximately the same power, from 115 to 120 liters. from. In 2002, the volume of gasoline engines increased to 3.0 liters, and then a 2.0 liter diesel engine appeared. The car was delivered to the American market with a Ford engine of the Duratec brand.
Third generation
The third generation of the Mazda MPV automobile, the production of which began in 2007 and continues to the present (only for the Japanese domestic market), is equipped with an in-line four-cylinder engine of the L3-VE series with a volume of 2.3 liters and a capacity of 141 liters. from. and a 2.0-liter L3-VDT series turbodiesel with a capacity of 136 liters. from.
Transmission
Mazda MPV is essentially the first minivan-class car to which a 6-speed automatic transmission was serially installed. The unit provided high smoothness of movement of a heavy machine, which was not previously observed in all-wheel drive models with a medium-power engine. This factor played a role in the presentation of the 2003 car, which significantly increased sales. However, most cars were still equipped with 5-speed manual gearboxes.
Chassis
The chassis of the Mazda MPV is sustained in the best traditions of heavy four-wheel drive vehicles. The frame is welded, profile, all-metal construction, with a high coefficient of rigidity. MacPherson strut front suspension, independent, combined with a double helix and hydraulic shock absorber reciprocating. The rear suspension is independent, multi-link with a stabilizer bar.
The steering is characterized by good feedback, due to the equipment of the rotary rack and pinion mechanism with a hydraulic booster. The steering column is adjustable in height, with a change in tilt.
Double-circuit brake system of the car, front disc brakes, ventilated, rear disc, without perforation. The brakes are equipped with anti-lock braking system ABS and a regulator that calculates the braking force depending on the load.
