Rough hands are a painful aesthetic problem that occurs mainly in winter. Adverse atmospheric conditions lead to the fact that we are dealing with irritated and dry skin of the hands. Other causes are skin diseases such as psoriasis and eczema. Proper care includes the use of good hand cream, peels, masks and regenerating gloves.
Cracked skin on hands - what are the reasons?
Dry and cracked skin on the hands is a problem that occurs with the advent of colds. Frost and wind aggravate painful diseases. In addition, freezing temperatures and exposure to low humidity heated rooms damage sensitive and dry hands. However, there are many more reasons that determine the appearance of this problem.
Cracked skin appears mainly on the fingers, especially around the pads. This is a pretty big aesthetic problem, sometimes very painful.
The main reasons why your hands become rough are as follows:
- External Very low temperatures (they cause rapid evaporation of water from the epidermis), frostbite (additionally increase the problem, causing irritation), detergents, frequent contact with water (especially hot), improper skin care, hard water, unbalanced nutrition, consumption of too little amount of fluid.
- Internal Skin diseases such as psoriasis, eczema, skin mycosis, systemic diseases, allergies, deficiency of vitamins (especially vitamin A), reduced immunity.
The causes of cracks between the fingers can be previous fungal infections, the use of antibiotics and immunosuppressants, the presence of HIV, cancer, renal failure and hyperthyroidism.
Most often, rough skin of the hands appears in men. This is due to the fact that they have a thicker stratum corneum of the epidermis, and not all of them like to regularly apply creams and balms.
Proper hand care
Care for rough hands is associated with ensuring proper hydration of the skin, as well as the elimination of factors that can affect exacerbation of symptoms. Often there is a need to change everyday habits.
Experts advise:
- avoid frequent contact with hot water, detergents and other chemicals that can aggressively affect the skin surface;
- wear protective gloves during all work involving the use of chemicals;
- use cosmetics intended for allergy sufferers;
- after each hand wash a good moisturizer should be used;
- replace the soap with a mild hand wash (alkaline soap has a very drying effect);
- avoid cosmetics containing alcohol and other skin-drying substances;
- apply cosmetic gloves that intensively regenerate the epidermis.
Do not use dryers or paper towels that dry your skin.
Hand Cracked Treatments
Consider what to do with rough hands at home. Among the procedures that are recommended to be carried out at home, the following should be noted:
- A bath with the addition of nutritious ingredients moisturizes and relieves irritation. To prepare it, you can add olive oil and a little lemon juice to warm water. Remember that the temperature of the bath should not be too high. Immerse your hands in it for 15 minutes. It is recommended not to wash them after the procedure, but gently wipe them with a towel, leaving a thin layer of oil.
- A hand scrub exfoliates the dead and horny layers of the epidermis and prepares it for further procedures. Homemade scrub can be prepared by mixing large sugar, such as brown, with a few tablespoons of olive oil, honey and lemon juice. Sugar can also be replaced with sea salt, ground coffee oatmeal.
- Hand mask - for example, boiled and chopped potatoes with the addition of yolks and warm milk have a nourishing and smoothing effect. The mask should be kept on the skin for about 15 minutes, preferably under a food foil for better penetration of the active ingredients, and then rinse with warm water.
A good home way to get rid of rough skin on your hands is also to lubricate them with cocoa butter, lanolin, petroleum jelly, mineral or vegetable oils, such as argan and coconut.
Remember that all hand procedures, regardless of whether they are carried out at home or in a beauty salon, will give the best and lasting effect only if you perform them regularly. Dry hands should be looked after at home 1-2 times a week, and once every 2-3 months, afford professional treatment performed by an experienced cosmetologist.
Good cream
For rough hands you need first of all a good cream that will renew and strengthen the weakened protective surface of the epidermis. It should be dense and nutritious and, in addition, contain a sufficient amount of fat, which will make up for the lack of lipids in the skin and allow the natural hydrolipidic layer of the epidermis to better perform its insulating functions.
Among the most desirable ingredients are vitamins (A, E, C) and provitamin B5 to prevent excessive drying, peeling and cracking of the epidermis.
Hand creams should also contain: lipoamino acids, emollients (for example, shea butter), urea, SPF 15-50 filters that protect the skin from the sun, soothing thermal water, ceramides, oils, for example from a rose with intensely regenerating properties, plant extracts (extract from water lily).
Remember that the cream you choose should be used every time after washing your hands: it is during washing that the skin loses the most lipids.
