On the classic series, as well as on the VAZ-2106, the oil pressure sensor has a more complex design than on the "eights" and later cars. And the thing is that the sensor gives a signal of various shapes, depending on the magnitude of the pressure. This signal is subsequently converted and fed to the indicator. And on it you can already see the exact value of the oil pressure. In later models, this is not, a simple switch is used, which closes the circuit at a pressure in the system below the minimum permissible value.
What is a pressure sensor?
On the VAZ-2106 model, the oil pressure sensor monitors the state of the lubrication system. Of course, he does not take any troubleshooting steps, but allows you to notify the driver that the engine has somehow started to work incorrectly. The advantage of the control system installed on the sixes, and on the whole classic as a whole, is that the measurement is carried out according to two data.
Firstly, the momentary value is fixed and displayed on the indicator. Secondly, when the pressure drops below the minimum threshold, the lamp ignites. True, the indicator is located below the driver’s eye level. It’s good that an orange flash can be caught. The VAZ-2106 instrument panel consists of several tools for diagnosing the condition of the engine, and all of them are located mainly to the left of the steering wheel.
Replacing the oil pressure sensor on a VAZ 2106 car
You will need a key of 19 from the tools. The element is located directly on the engine block, it is difficult not to notice it - a large enough cylinder from which the wire goes. It is closer to the gearbox, on the driver's side. In addition to the key, you will not need any tool for the replacement.
First of all, disconnect the wire that is connected to the sensor. Only after this can you unscrew the housing using the key on 19, which was mentioned above. Unscrew the worn out one, put in its place a new one, that’s all the work that really takes two minutes, or even less. But there is a small feature in the system, which will be discussed a little later.
Lamp switch
Take a look at the VAZ-2106 instrument panel, you will see an indicator on which there is an arrow and a control lamp. It indicates that the pressure in the lubrication system has dropped to a critical value. And this lamp works from a separate reader, which is located in close proximity to the pressure sensor. If this lamp does not light, then the reader must be replaced.
To do this, you need two tools - a 21-head and an open-end wrench of the same size. First of all, of course, disconnect all wires that may interfere with removal. Why do you need two keys? You hold the metal adapter alone so that it does not turn. And the second you turn off the device case. Mount the new one in the reverse order. This is where the work is completed, the replacement of the oil pressure sensor was successful.
Latest car models
It has already been said that on the VAZ-2106, the oil pressure sensor allows for wider monitoring. Starting from the first Samar, VAZ installs several other designs that some groups of drivers cannot satisfy. It is clear that an illiterate driver, having seen the image of a red oiler, may not even suspect something was amiss. And where is he going to control the pressure in the system?
But most motorists are technically savvy, for this reason it is necessary to be aware of everything that happens with the motor. In “Samara” and “tens”, for example, there is a gorgeous attribute - headlight position corrector. Moreover, it is hydraulic. And to find a car with a working corrector mechanism is unrealistic and in the afternoon with fire. But this is a free niche; a pressure indicator is easily installed in it. And instead of the standard sensor, an adapter is mounted. The engine oil pressure sensor becomes the same as on the "classic". And a simple wiring is laid, which is powered from the ignition and connects all the elements of the system.
How to diagnose
It is unlikely that you want to get on an expensive engine overhaul. For this reason, it is necessary to monitor the operation of the motor, in particular, the pressure in the lubrication system. If it is insufficient, then the oil will not be able to reach the most distant corners. For example, camshaft and valve lubrication will be insufficient. It is possible that the latter can rattle, as if shouting for help.
A performance check is a guarantee that you will not have unpleasant “surprises”. To check you need an accurate pressure gauge with a scale of up to 10 Atmospheres (this is more than enough). Remove the oil pressure sensor on the VAZ-2106, and instead turn on the pressure gauge. But there will be small subtleties, depending on which type of pressure gauge you choose - electric or switch. The second is easier. Start the engine, the arrow should slightly deviate. Two atmospheres should be at 2000 rpm of the crankshaft. True, sometimes there is a bust. No matter what the crankshaft speed, the pressure should not exceed seven atmospheres.
