Paints for rust - a simple solution to a complex problem

Rust paint
Recently, high-quality rust paints are increasingly being sold, thanks to which any person can not only perfectly upgrade old metal products, but also save a lot of time at the same time. More recently, in order to update, for example, iron railings or grilles on windows, they had to be pre-treated with sandpaper or a grinder (to remove the old coating), primed the surface and only then apply new enamel. Modern rust paints can be used without preliminary surface treatment, which is very attractive to buyers.

Despite the promising advertising, many buyers still experience some distrust of this type of paintwork. Should manufacturers of these coatings be trusted or not? In fact, buyers should know that almost all ferrous metals rust quickly in the presence of water and oxygen. At the same time, protection methods such as rust cleaning, priming, and application of paints and varnishes cannot be regularly and regularly applied to these structures. In this case, the only possible and most affordable way of surface treatment is the application of paint on rust. Some of them are waterborne containing phosphoric acid. There is a two-component paint for metal and rust, containing additives based on epoxy or polyurethane resins and corrosion inhibitors.

Paint for metal and rust
Water-borne compositions are the most environmentally friendly and cheap, but their use as β€œfinish” coatings is possible only in those cases when the requirements for high decorativeness are not imposed on the surface of metal structures and they are used in conditions with relatively low environmental aggressiveness. Such compositions are best applied to pre-primed surfaces. The best rust paints form coatings that maximally isolate the metal surface from aggressive substances, oxygen and water. They modify the chemical composition of the rust itself, which significantly slows down the destructive corrosion processes. Do not forget that, no matter how good such coatings are, loose rust must still be removed from the metal surface beforehand, since no paint can "bind" it and hold on for a long time.

Hamerayt Rust Paint
There are many varieties of anti-corrosion coatings. One of the most sought after products of this kind is Hammerite rust paint. It is easy to apply, since it performs several functions at the same time: it converts the corrosion layer, is a primer and a top coat. It is noteworthy that Hammerite paint in several layers can be applied in one day. This paintwork provides the metalwork with a decorative look and good protection. This paint is not intended for industrial use. The best effect is achieved when applying a layer with a thickness of at least 100 microns. Hamerayt paints are able to repel moisture, since they include silicones. This coating is based on a complex of resins designed to block rust. It consists of modified alkyds providing high adhesion to metal surfaces. The fast-evaporating solvents available in the Hamerayt rust paint make it quick to dry. Glass microparticles reinforce the waterproof barrier. This paint is applied only to a non-peeling surface that has been painted at least six months before. Hammerayt paint is not compatible with bitumen based formulations. When applied to non-ferrous metals, preliminary priming is required.
