The healer Panteleimon was born in Nicomedia and at birth received the name Pantoleon. There was such a case when Pantoleon prayed for the life of a dead child, bitten by a malicious cat, from Jesus Christ. When the child came to life, Pantoleon believed in Christ and was baptized, and at baptism he received the name Panteleimon, which means All-Merciful.

The formation of faith

Panteleimon devoted his whole life to the wretched, sick, afflicted and poor. He treated them, visited and healed prisoners in prison. Soon the whole city was already going to be treated only to Panteleimon. This, of course, could not please other doctors, and they slandered their rival to the emperor. Panteleimon was betrayed to the most perverted and cruel torments, and then thrown into a cage to be torn to pieces by animals. But the animals did not touch the saint. Then the emperor ordered to chop off his head. All the while the bullying continued, Panteleimon fervently sent prayers to the Lord Jesus Christ. When the guard brought the sword over the head of the healer, the iron of the sword turned into wax, the heavens opened and everyone heard the Voice, which addressed Panteleimon by name and called him to the Kingdom of Heaven. The executioners, seeing and hearing this, refused to comply with the emperor’s order, but Panteleimon asked them to fulfill the order in order to meet later. After cutting off the head, it was not blood that flowed from the wound, but milk. The body thrown into the fire did not burn, the Christians then betrayed it to the earth. Since then, Panteleimon is considered the patron saint of doctors and sick people.
