A common malfunction encountered by PC users is drive problems. If a problem occurs, it is not necessary to immediately bring the computer to a service center. There are several ways to fix the problem yourself. Here's what to do if the drive does not open.
How to open the drive: regular tools
So, the problem is obvious, and you urgently need to remove the
storage medium. To get started, use the simplest algorithm: "Start" - "Computer" - "Eject Disk".
Drive Does Not Open: Mechanical Way
If the combination of commands did not fix the problem, try removing the disc mechanically. To do this, take a needle (knitting needle, unfolded paper clip) and insert it into the hole on the front of the drive until it stops. When operated, the CD-ROM should open slightly. Then we pry the tray with our fingers, push it out and remove the disk.
As an auxiliary tool, a knife with a blunt end may appear. By clicking on the button, we pry the tray with a knife and try to pull it out. The main thing here is to act very carefully so as not to damage the drive.
Alternatively, you can disconnect-connect the interface wires, and then do one of the above procedures.
If all else fails, you should remove the drive itself and examine it for damage. In the PC, unscrew the side / back wall, disconnect the cable and remove the drive. In a laptop, such an operation will require more caution and skill. On most models, the keyboard must be removed to remove the drive. But in ASUS, the convenient location of the drive does not complicate access to it. To do this, just flip the laptop and turn out a few screws.
All of the above activities should be carried out with the computer turned off.
Learn more about why the drive does not open.
Even if you were able to eject the disc from the tray, you must determine the cause of the problem. The drive may jam due to a malfunction of the
magnetic latch, which is responsible for the reliable location of the disk in the drive.
Loosening the rubber strap that extends the tray also causes a problem. At first, it can be treated with rosin, in the future, the weakened belt must be replaced.
The reason the drive does not open may lie in cutting one of the teeth that the gear is in contact with. It makes the disc tray move. Because of this malfunction, the drive makes a creaking sound when it opens / closes or jam at all. The only way out is restoration of the tooth. You can make it from hot plastic at home. If you are not sure that you can manage it yourself, it is better to take the drive to the workshop. This procedure will take very little time.
Damage can be purely mechanical in nature: dust, small foreign objects got into the drive. "General cleaning" will ensure the normal operation of the device. If the problem lies in the malfunction of the motor, then the drive will have to be replaced with a new one.
Spontaneous opening / closing of the drive
If the drive opens and closes, then the cause of such a malfunction may be the result of exposure to a malicious program, mechanical malfunction of a loop, a closing sensor, or the drive itself. Most often, spontaneous extension of the tray provokes factory defects or damage caused during operation of the device.
First of all, you need to thoroughly clean the drive and examine for possible damage. If cleaning does not work, the drive should be taken to the workshop. Most likely, specific parts will need to be replaced. Although in most cases it is easier to buy a new drive. Now you know what to do if the drive does not open.
