Not so long ago, the Church of the Intercession on Lyshchikova Hill was transferred to the ownership of the Russian Orthodox Church. Today the building is a cultural heritage of federal significance.
The history of the appearance of the Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin on Lishchikova Hill
Initially, on the site where the church was built, there was a monastery. In the XVII century, the Church of the Intercession was built on Lyshchikova Mountain. A few decades after construction, the temple was damaged in a fire, and it was decided to build a new building, but at the foot of the mountain.
So at the turn of the XVI-XVII centuries a new Church of the Intercession appeared on Lyshchikova Mountain, or rather, at its foot. The consecration of the church took place a couple of years after the construction.
Later, a two-tier belfry was rebuilt. The entrance to the bell tower was on the west side of the temple. There was a porch under the bell tower.
At the end of the 18th century, I. Likharev rebuilt the refectory into a part of the chapel, which was dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.
Over the hundred-year period of its existence, the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Lyshchikova Hill survived two major fires. In both cases, the church was restored. After the last repair work, the temple was consecrated again.
At the beginning of the XIX century, thanks to the financial influences of the Sergeyev merchants, the refectory was expanded to the northern part. This construction made it possible to form another aisle. But due to Napoleon’s attack, the construction could not be completed. The church was destroyed and, worst of all, the enemy soldiers abused her. The current rector of the temple at that time was transferred to the ministry in another temple.
It was not possible to conduct services under such conditions, so the parishioners were transferred to the church of St. Nicholas the Miracle Worker, which was located in the village of Yama. The temple was completely restored already in 1814.
Soviet times
During the reign of the Communists, the Church of the Intercession on Lyshchikova Hill was not closed or restructured, which was very rare during the time of the persecution. On the contrary, from the churches that were nearby and were converted into dormitories or other public organizations, they brought the icons for storage.
At the end of the seventies of the last century, a new bailiff was completed in honor of the closed temple of Simeon Stolpnik.
The temple also managed to survive the Second World War, due to the fact that parishioners defended it. So that the bells were not removed from the bell tower by the Bolsheviks, they were coated either with paint, or with tar or feces. As a result, the soldiers disdained to touch them.
The largest bell weighs about 2000 kg. Today, both old and new bells hang on the bell tower of the temple.
In the middle of the last century, due to the fact that the Soviet government took away all the church premises, there were not enough monasteries. Therefore, in the Intercession Church, I had to dismantle one of the stairs and make another extension. After all the constructions of the parish were returned, the extension was not dismantled.
Temple architecture
Initially, the construction of the temple was rounded. Later, already in 1838, an annex of an unusual form appeared. Its rounded eastern part generalized the fractional part of the aspid.
Such a solution fit perfectly into the architecture of the late Empire style. It was during this period that the integrity of the entire architectural composition from the side of the street was appreciated.
This extension turned out to be a connecting link between the facade of the building and arched niches.
Those walls that go into the alley are finished with rough masonry. Old walls are decorated with stucco elements. Angled shoulder blades are very similar in appearance to pilasters. A blank drum is decorated with a number of miniature kokoshniks.
All basic architecture work was carried out at the expense of two elders - Stuzhin and Bernikov. At the expense of the latter, a parable house was built.
