Despite the fact that the subculture is ready originated more than forty years ago, it does not lose its popularity. Why this happens, we are not interested in the topic of this article. We are more concerned about the question of what Gothic make-ups exist and how to make them yourself.
The main features of the style
An important component for this subculture is appearance. Serious attention is paid to clothing, shoes, accessories, hair and makeup. Fashionable direction in this style has always been asked by musicians. It is they who are oriented when they want to determine their appearance.
At the first stage in the Gothic style there were many elements from punk: piercing, hairstyles in the form of mohawk. Now the main features of the image are as follows:
- the predominance of black in clothing;
- jewelry made of silver or metal (crosses, symbols of death, images of bats and much more);
- specific makeup.
In makeup, which is done not only by women, but also by men, white powder and black eyeliner, bright lipstick in saturated colors are necessarily used. Tattoos can also be applied, and contact lenses for the eyes are worn (yellow, green, or red). Gothic makeup is not everyday. It is done before "going out": to a concert, a theme party.
What do you need for makeup?
To make a make-up in accordance with all the rules, you need cosmetics and working tools:
- liquid black eyeliner or pencil;
- black mascara;
- shades of dark shades
- Foundation;
- powder;
- dark lipstick (black or red);
- lip pencil to match the lipstick;
- skin cleanser;
- base face cream;
- set of brushes for applying cosmetics.
Gothic make-ups are distinguished by the fact that they use clear, even lines: for eyeliner, for lip contouring. This will require some training and a firm, confident hand. Careless, sloppy lines will ruin your makeup, so it's best to start practicing in advance, and not experiment on the eve of a responsible event.
You also need to decide what exactly will become a bright accent on the face. Most often they rely on the eyes, less often on the lips.
Preparatory stage

- moisturizing.
At the stage of cleansing, milk or scrub is used, which is applied with a cotton pad. It is not necessary to rub the skin strongly, it can cause irritation. Use cleanser to remove any makeup that was on your face before, remove dust and dirt. Then gently massage your skin with a scrub to cleanse your pores more deeply. You can make a cleansing mask.
Remove the remnants of milk and scrub with a tonic. Apply a basic moisturizing cream base. In the shortened preparatory version, it is enough to wash and use the cream.
Align your complexion
After the skin is cleaned and moisturized, you can proceed to makeup. It starts with foundation. It is applied most often with fingers, but it is more correct to use a special cosmetic sponge-sponge for this. This allows you to distribute the cream in a thinner and more even layer, and spend the product more economically. It is hygienic and does not overload the skin with excess makeup.
A small amount of the base is applied to the middle of the forehead, cheekbones and chin. Then gently distribute it throughout the face.
After the foundation comes the turn of powder. Apply it with a thin layer using a special large soft brush. Do not get carried away so as not to turn your face into a theater mask.
Since the cream and powder are selected at least a couple of tones lighter than your natural complexion, but at this stage the skin should acquire a noble pallor. Do not forget about the neck!
Gothic eye makeup
This is the most responsible and difficult part. If you have enough confidence, then it is better to use liquid eyeliner for arrows, if you are not so determined, it is better to give preference to a soft pencil. For eyeliner of the lower eyelid, you can use both black and white. Light will make the eyes visually larger.
