The beginning of the history of the university
In early March 1956, the Council of Ministers of the USSR issued a decree establishing in Siberia an educational institution that would be engaged in the issue of personnel for consumer cooperation organizations. The creation of such a university was entrusted to the Central Union of the USSR. He complied with the order of the Council of Ministers a few days later, having established a university in Novosibirsk. The educational institution was called the Institute of Soviet Cooperative Trade.
After the official creation, the university began to prepare for the beginning of the school year. The Institute received the building. The staff was formed from teachers of Novosibirsk and experts invited from other regions of the country. In September 1956, the first classes began. 250 people began to study.
Educational development path
From the moment of opening, the Novosibirsk Institute of Soviet Cooperative Trade had goals for further growth and development, and they were fulfilled in the process of activity:
- in 1959, a dormitory was opened for students and the first academic building began to work;
- a year later, the university has another hostel;
- in 1961, an important event took place that positively influenced the scientific activities of the institute - the university created a research laboratory to study the natural resources of Siberia;
- in 1965 another educational building was opened;
- in 1972, due to the increase in the number of faculties and the number of students, 2 dormitories were opened.
The university developed, and in connection with this, its names and statuses changed. In 1992, it became known as the Novosibirsk Commercial Institute of the Central Union, in 1994 - the Siberian Commercial Academy of Consumer Cooperation, and in 1997, the Siberian University of Consumer Cooperation (SibUPK).
University work today
A modern university can be called a unique educational institution. Over the 60 years of its existence, this educational organization has trained over 100 thousand people for services and trade.
