We repair the ignition distributor

Each car has 4 systems: a lubrication system, a brake system, a fuel system and an ignition system. Naturally, in case of a malfunction of one engine will not work, which means that the car will simply not be needed. To avoid this, you need to constantly monitor them and monitor the condition, even if their work is not satisfactory.

In this article we will dwell in more detail on the ignition system. It is not so complicated as to turn to specialists for every occasion, and it is not so simple as not to do it in case of a serious breakdown. Its main components are the ignition distributor and the ignition coil. Their condition should be especially carefully monitored. First of all, it is worth watching to see if they are damaged or cracked. Particular attention should be paid to such details as the ignition distributor cover. If there are cracks on it, then it needs to be changed immediately, since breakdowns are formed "on the mass", which means interruptions in the ignition.

The ignition distributor incorporates a contact node, or a Hall sensor, both serve as a current chopper going to the primary winding of the ignition coil. At the moment of opening the contacts, the current flow stops, and an induction current is generated in the secondary winding of the ignition coil, which has a voltage of up to 20 kV. The fact is that its frequency is low, so high-voltage wires are not melted. Then, through the central high-voltage wire, current is supplied to the ignition distributor, after which, by means of a slider, it is distributed through the cylinders, more precisely, by the candles screwed into the head.

This design has been widely used due to its comparative reliability, simplicity and durability. Naturally, in many brands and models there are some differences, but they are unprincipled.

ignition system repair

Of course, there are times when you need to repair the ignition system. Before doing this, be sure to disconnect the battery, since a short in the ignition system is especially painful for car electronics. If the engine does not start at all, then you should first determine the nature of the malfunction. The ignition coil is checked using a conventional tester. It is also worth making sure that there are no short circuits to ground, especially the wire coming from one of the terminals of the ignition coil to the ignition distributor. If everything is in order with the indicated parts, then if available, you need to make sure that the switch is in good working order. It rarely fails, but this happens and happens because of a short circuit. Before replacing it, you need to check the chain for a similar object.

Well, if after that the car continues to rest, then it is worth looking under the cover of the ignition distributor. If there is a contact node, then you need to check the gap, and also inspect for the presence of sinks. If it is not there, then the malfunction can be one: the resistor located on the slider burned out. It just needs to be replaced. Many change it with a piece of wire, which is not worth doing at all.

In conclusion, it is worth saying that caring for the ignition system comes down to the timely replacement of spark plugs, and you also need to watch that the high-voltage wires are not damaged. If you follow these simple rules, then there will be a stable spark at the candles, which, as they say, "will kill the elephant."
