SPbU is the oldest classical university in Russia, created specifically as a higher educational institution, not only providing education for new personnel, but also conducting research work organized under Catherine the Great according to the plans of Peter the Great.
The Institute of History, St. Petersburg State University, emerged from the faculty of historical and verbal sciences, created in 1819.

After the revolution, the faculty of historical and verbal sciences became part of the VON (faculty of social sciences), within the framework of which in different years there was a historical department and an archaeological historical department.
In the spring of 1934, a decree was issued on the creation of the Leningrad State University — the name of St. Petersburg State University — from the beginning of the new academic history faculty at Leningrad State University.
It existed in this form until 2013, when, after refusing to merge the historical and philosophical faculties, it was decided to create the Institute of History of St. Petersburg State University.

Admission Algorithm: Undergraduate and Specialty
There is a good chance that if you are interested in applying for a bachelor's or a specialist's program, then this is your first education.
SPbU is one of the few universities in Russia that have the right to establish entrance examinations - an alternative to the exam. They have the right to pass a person with a secondary specialized education (graduated from a college or technical school), and a number of other persons (for more details, see the selection committee of St. Petersburg State University).
For admission to history or archeology, the results of entrance tests in three subjects will be required - these are history, social studies and the Russian language. The threshold point for your application to be considered on all subjects is 65, and for the use of special law (relevant for winners of the Olympiads) - 75 points.
After the announcement of the season for accepting applications, it is necessary to send by e-mail, by mail, or bring personally to the selection committee a copy (and the original, if your intentions are more serious than ever) of the certificate, a copy of the first three pages of the passport, three photos of size 3x4 and a completed application ( its sample can be found in the selection committee).
