On June 13, 2004, he participated in the elections and, gaining 58.8%, was elected head of the Florence administration. During his reign, Matteo was popular not only among his constituents. He became a true associate of youth in politics. He was able to reduce provincial taxes, not forgetting about culture and innovation (Renzi restored the Palazzo Medici).
