The phase sensor on the VAZ-2114 is used to adjust the ignition timing and the moment of fuel injection. With it, the electronic engine control unit removes information about the speed of the camshaft. The second name of the device is a camshaft sensor. For the first time on VAZ-2114 cars it was started to be used in 2007, before that the control system functioned with one crankshaft rotation sensor. But the use of an additional device allows to achieve maximum power and minimum fuel consumption.

The device is installed opposite the camshaft gear. There is no one tooth on it - it is with the help of such a simple feature that it is possible to fix the rotation frequency. The phase sensor operates thanks to the Hall effect, like a similar device in non-contact type ignition distributors. A signal is sent from the sensor to the input of the electronic control unit - there is a conversion and selection of operating parameters.

All actuators begin to work strictly according to the fuel card stored in the memory of the control unit. In the event of a breakdown of the phase sensor on the VAZ-2114, there is a transition to operation in emergency mode - only signals from the device mounted on the crankshaft are used. Why the sensor breaks

  2. Deterioration of dynamics, acceleration of the car becomes "sluggish".

Sensor Diagnostics

Before replacing the phase sensor on the VAZ-2114, it is necessary to diagnose the old one. It is possible that the cause of the breakdown lies in the wires connecting it to the electronic control unit. Engines with 8 or 16 valves are installed on VAZ-2114 vehicles. For diagnostics, you only need a multimeter. The procedure for checking the sensor on the V8 motor looks like this:

  1. Measure the voltage at the sensor signal output. To do this, apply power to it - connect it to the β€œE” terminal. Pin β€œB” should have a voltage of 0.9 V.
  2. Bring a metal object to the active element of the device. In the event that the sensor is serviceable, the voltage will drop to 0.4 V. Otherwise, there is an internal breakdown.

On V16 engines, the diagnosis is slightly different - at the β€œB” terminal there should initially be a voltage of 0.4 V, and when exposed to a metal object, it rises to 0.9 V.

Replacement

The device is located on the right side of the motor, next to the air filter housing. Fastening is done with a single bolt. To replace the phase sensor on the VAZ-2114, it is necessary to disconnect the battery and disconnect the block.

Using a key of 10, you need to unscrew the bolt that secures the sensor, and then remove it. The new one is put in the reverse order. Be sure to clean all surfaces to which the device is adjacent - ingress of metal chips or dust can cause the sensor to stop working. After replacement, start the engine and check its operation - errors should disappear.
