Ulyanovsk State Agricultural Academy is a higher educational institution of Russia, which presents a wide selection of different specialties. Here they receive not only higher education, but also improve their qualifications thanks to acceptable educational programs of postgraduate education. Since 2017, it has been transformed into a university by a special decree.
Story
The Ulyanovsk State Agricultural Academy - USSAA, as it is called in abbreviation, has its history since 1943. With the outbreak of war, the Voronezh Veterinary Institute was evacuated to Ulyanovsk. It was on its basis that the academy was founded by a special decree of the Soviet government. The difficult years of the war required the training of highly qualified specialists in the field of agriculture, and the new educational institution became the forge of such personnel.
In 1994, the school was subjected to certification. After numerous examinations, the Academy received a license and the full right to carry out educational activities in the framework of higher and additional education.
On April 25, 2017, by a special order of the Minister of Agriculture of Russia, the Academy was given a new name - Ulyanovsk State Agrarian University named after P.A. Stolypin. The new status received by the academy requires a higher level in teaching. This consists in improving the scientific and technical base and building up scientific potential.
Main faculties
At the beginning of its activities, the Ulyanovsk State Agricultural Academy could offer only three faculties. Applicants chose between veterinary, zootechnical (later they combined), later renamed as zooengineering, and agronomic directions. Seven years later, in 1950, the faculty of repair and maintenance of agricultural equipment joined them. Fifteen years later, the Faculty of Economics opened.
Now there are only 4 faculties of the Ulyanovsk State Agricultural Academy:
- Faculty of Agrotechnologies, Land Resources and Food Production;
- engineering;
- veterinary medicine and biotechnology;
- Faculty of Economics.
All faculties train in dozens of specialties and train narrow-profile specialists with a large store of knowledge and experience by the end of training. After receiving a diploma, graduates are full-fledged specialists and can directly begin work under the guidance of senior employees.

Specialties of the Ulyanovsk State Agricultural Academy are aimed at studying:

- microbiology.
Students can also study here the automotive industry and cars, technologies used in the agricultural field. There is a specialty related to the organization of catering and food production technologies.
Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology
This faculty was founded in 2015. He appeared at the Ulyanovsk State Agricultural Academy thanks to the merger of the veterinary and zooengineering faculties. It has an excellent library fund, as well as a technical base.
The faculty has six of its own museums: anatomical, parasitological, pathological, zoological, veterinary and sanitary examination and microbiological. All exhibits in it are collected by students and teachers from the day of foundation, since 1943. There are several own laboratories equipped with everything necessary for continuous fruitful work.
Further training is also given to the teaching staff. Each teacher once a year undergoes practical training at operating facilities of agricultural enterprises, at various research institutes, as well as at higher educational institutions abroad.
Preparation and admission
The Ulyanovsk State Agricultural Academy does a great job helping yesterday's schoolchildren and graduates of secondary and special educational institutions to choose a specialty and prepare well for entrance exams. Extracurricular orientation classes are held in the graduation class at all schools in Ulyanovsk. Teachers and graduates of the academy meet with children, represent the university, and talk in detail about the area of science they work in. On the territory of the academy, open door days are held twice a year. This is a kind of fair where students show guests their personal developments, which, with the support of their own educational institution, they managed to bring to life. Specialists from various fields of business and budget enterprises come here in search of young specialists with new knowledge and knowledge of working methods in production.
Since the university has an agricultural focus, the main subjects in passing state exams are the Russian language and mathematics, and the core ones are chemistry and biology.
The university has full-time and part-time studies. Full-time form involves daily attendance of classes for five years. After graduation, the student receives a specialist degree and, if desired, can continue his studies by submitting documents to the magistracy or graduate school. All applications are considered. Students are paid a scholarship throughout the entire period of study.
Magazine issue
In 2005, on the technical base of the educational institution, the scientific and theoretical journal “Bulletin of the Ulyanovsk State Agricultural Academy” began to be published. It is registered with the press and is the official media not only within the framework of education. The publication has a wide range of authors. Here, students, as well as graduates who continue to do science, publish their scientific articles and studies. Since 2011, the Bulletin of the Ulyanovsk State Agricultural Academy has been included in the list of publications in which people who claim to receive any scientific degrees must publish their scientific works. The editor-in-chief is the university rector, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences Alexander Vladimirovich Dozorov.
The direction of the journal is related to the activities of the educational complex. Articles that deal with problems of economics, veterinary medicine, biology, and agriculture are accepted for publication.
Academy activities
The Ulyanovsk State Agricultural Academy named after Stolypin has the status of a confirmed educational institution and has the necessary licenses. This gives her the right not only to train specialists in various fields, but also to provide retraining and re-certification services for already held employees. The Academy conducts independent scientific research in the field of agriculture, as it is one of the largest universities in the region.
Much attention is paid to working with high school students. Career guidance helps graduates better understand professions and make a choice in favor of one of them. The university also works closely with rural schools and provides pre-university training for applicants. This helps yesterday's graduates to obtain the missing knowledge and enter a higher education institution, gaining a sufficient number of points.

Primary students are introduced to production technologies using special demonstration equipment. For example, technologists in the baking business can always conduct their research in the bakery. The Academy has a wide range of partners who not only provide the opportunity to study in direct production, but also happily recruit young specialists after receiving a diploma.
Scientific activity
There is no Ulyanovsk State Agricultural Academy named after Stolypin is far from innovation. Various meetings, conferences, forums, and training seminars for youth are held here monthly. The educational council and the leadership of the academy always go towards talented students, support their innovative developments in the field of agriculture and biology.
Within the framework of the Russian program "Entertaining Science", an exhibition-contest is held annually on the territory of educational buildings, where young researchers and inventors present their works. The University organized the School of Young Researchers. Pupils of the city who are interested in the activities of the Academy can always use the book fund or the material and technical base of the Academy.
Famous graduates
Despite the distance from the capital, the Ulyanovsk State Agricultural Academy is one of the strongest educational institutions in Russia. Once upon a time, such famous people as Alexander Vasilyevich Vrazhnov, honored agronomist of Russia, who later became the director of the Chelyabinsk Research Institute of Agriculture, studied at its walls.
Another famous graduate was Pavel Pavlovich Borodin, managing the affairs of the President of the Russian Federation from 1993 to 2000.
