Calm, without panic: there are no questions that could not be found the right answers. In our case, we have a consequence: the sound disappeared. It remains to determine the cause, eliminate it and enjoy the result.
Correct diagnosis is the key to a successful solution to a problem. This is what we are going to do now.
- Make sure that the speakers are plugged in, the wires are intact, and plugged into the appropriate jack. If necessary, plug the speakers into an electrical outlet and press the power button on them.
- Check the sound settings: in the lower right corner (where the watch is) there is a round speaker sign. It should be WITHOUT a red prohibition sign (red crossed out circle). If there is a prohibition sign there, move the cursor and click on it with the left mouse button. Then you need to uncheck the box next to Off.
- Double-clicking on the speaker icon in the lower right corner will open the mixer - a device with which you can adjust the sound. Make sure that the audio sliders are not at a minimum and there are no check marks next to the word Off.
- If possible, connect known-running headphones / speakers to the PC audio output. So you can determine if the sound was lost due to idle speakers / headphones or a problem in the computer itself.
- There is a chance that the PC lost sound due to infection with computer viruses. They can affect the operation of the sound driver, as a result of which the equipment may not work correctly or may not work at all. It is recommended to update the anti-virus database and conduct a full system scan with an anti-virus program (preferably several).
- The next step is to check the operability of the equipment. Hover over the My Computer icon and right-click. Select "Management" from the list and click on it. Then find the " Device Manager", hover over it and left-click. After that, find the cross with the inscription "Sound, video and gaming devices" and click on it with the left button. If the list contains devices with a yellow warning triangle, then you need to update the audio driver.
- Driver Update. A possible reason for the missing sound in the computer is flown sound drivers. To update / reinstall them, you need to insert the driver disk into the drive (included with the sound card or laptop) and install them. If there is no disk, download them from the manufacturer’s website and install.
- It is highly recommended that you upgrade your codecs. Where to get them? In any search engine, enter the K-Lite Codec Pack (a free set of codecs for playing most audio and video formats). Download and install the latest version of codecs.
- If all the previous measures have not corrected the situation, a complete reinstallation of the system may become a radical solution to the problem. To do this, you need an OS installation disk and a serial / license number.
- There was no sound on the PC and a complete reinstall of the system did not help. Here we can safely assume problems at the iron level. The reason may be a broken port or (in very rare cases) a chipset breakdown. Replacing the sound card can solve the problem with sound .
There is another option that sometimes causes trouble - the lack of sound in the browser. Before starting to fix the problem, make sure that the sound is played on the PC (system sounds, music, video) and the playback problem is purely in the browser.
Solving the problem if the sound is lost in the browser :
- restart the browser;
- clear browser cache and temporary Internet files ;
- update flash player;
- update codecs;
- scan the machine with an antivirus with fresh anti-virus databases;
- try a different browser;
- update / reinstall the browser.
