Broken glass in the door is not only a deterioration in the sound insulation of the room, but also a damaged interior in the house or apartment. And be that as it may, the issue of correcting the current situation becomes relevant. You can, of course, buy and install a new door, but a trivial replacement of glass will be much cheaper.
Modern interior doors are equipped with glass of various quality: from fragile to extremely durable and even fireproof. All kinds of color solutions allow you to choose options that fit perfectly into the interior. But a strong closing of the door, accidental impact or slamming it with a banal draft can cause damage even to such products. And if it so happened that you broke the glass in the door, then the first thing to do is to remove all the fragments, so as not to cut yourself at least. Start with large parts of the glass, then vacuum the floor and door to remove small and poorly visible residues.
Replacing broken glass is carried out in several stages, each of which is very important. In general, this procedure is not particularly complicated and does not require any special skills or abilities from the performer, but efforts will still have to be made, especially provided that the glass was of an irregular shape. You should also take care of your own safety and wear gloves. Nylon-coated cotton is best.
Dismantling
First of all, it is necessary to remove the broken glass from the door leaf. To perform this operation, you must first remove the frame or glazing beads that hold it. This should be done carefully so as not to damage the decorative layer, since they will have to be mounted back. For convenience, it is better to remove the door from the hinges, because it is much easier to work with it in a horizontal plane than in a vertical one.
Web preparation
Next, prepare a glass sheet from which a new insert will be cut. The color and structure of the glass can be chosen at your discretion. But in order to prevent or at least minimize the likelihood of a recurrence of the situation, you should look at options with increased strength. But do not take the thickest and most durable copy, since glass may not be suitable for your door. Therefore, before going to the store, it will not be superfluous to measure the gap under the glass. The purchased cloth should be wiped with a rag or cleaned with soapy water. Also, before starting work, it must be kept at room temperature, otherwise you can easily get a new broken glass.
Cut
After preparing the canvas, nothing prevents you from starting to mark it. If the shape of the insert is simple and unitary, then it can immediately be drawn on the canvas. If it is non-standard or there are several of them, then it is better to first practice on a piece of paper in a scale, for example 1 to 10, to reduce the amount of waste. If there are large sheets of paper or cardboard, then the pattern can be done differently: attach them to the hole in the door and draw a contour with a pencil or felt-tip pen, then cut it out with scissors and make an image on a glass canvas using the resulting pattern.
Cutting
This must be done on a flat surface. When conducting such work in a straight line, a glass cutter and a ruler are used. If you want to make a curvilinear shape, then you should prepare small stencils from fiberboard, which already perform the operation. It is necessary to cut towards yourself and once.
Mounting
The cut glass is installed in the door leaf and fastened using glazing beads or a frame that was removed during the dismantling of fragments. Thus, it is possible to replace broken glass with a new one.
