Periodontitis: treatment, causes, symptoms

The symptoms of periodontitis are, unfortunately, familiar to most people. Inflammation of the gums, ligaments and bones surrounding and holding the tooth is a very complex and difficult to treat disease. The main cause of tooth loss is periodontitis, the treatment of which must be started as early as possible. In the later stages of the disease, tooth salvation is not possible, therefore prevention is the best way to combat periodontitis.

When symptoms of a disease such as periodontitis appear, treatment with folk remedies can only be allowed as an addition to the activities carried out in the conditions of a dental clinic.

Periodontitis begins with the banal bleeding of the gums when brushing your teeth or when biting an apple. Then there is swelling and redness of the gums, which gradually separate from the teeth, forming pockets where bacteria accumulate and tartar is deposited. Gums bursting, pain when chewing and touching. Gaps form between the teeth, they are more and more exposed to the root, pus will stand out from the pockets, bad breath will appear , and the teeth will become mobile. At the last stage, they begin to fall out. At the same time, not only the gums suffer, but the bone tissue also decreases, which can become an obstacle to prosthetics and dental implants.

The causes of periodontitis are varied and ambiguous. There are many factors that, collectively or individually, can cause this disease. This may be a hereditary predisposition, diseases of the cardiovascular, digestive, endocrine system, dentoalveolar anomalies, improper metabolism, decreased immunity, stress, allergies, vitamin deficiency. The most common cause of periodontitis is poor hygiene. As a result of poor oral care, the waste products of the microbes living there are deposited in the gingival pockets in the form of a stone, destroying the soft and then hard periodontal tissues. The disease can develop as a result of various injuries, unsuccessful orthopedic and orthodontic treatment, placement of fillings with defects.

If periodontitis appears, treatment at home is not the best way. Only a doctor can conduct an examination and make the correct diagnosis. The treatment of periodontitis will depend on the causes; from the spread in the mouth: local or throughout the cavity; on the nature of the course: acute or chronic; severity.

As already mentioned, prevention is the best cure for all diseases. Prevention of periodontitis is brushing your teeth twice a day, removing food residues between your teeth, rinsing your mouth after eating, quitting smoking, increasing immunity, balanced nutrition, visiting a dentist or dentist twice a year, timely treatment of carious teeth.

Starting periodontitis, the treatment of which is carried out by therapeutic methods, is still possible to suspend. But from now on, the oral cavity will require constant increased attention.

Therapeutic treatment begins with a thorough removal of tartar , rinsing pockets and putting drugs in them. The patient is prescribed anti-inflammatory balms, gels, mouth rinses, immunomodulating drugs. The doctor selects a toothpaste, which prevents the formation of dental plaque, and teaches proper oral hygiene. After the acute period has passed, it is recommended to undergo a course of physiotherapy.

When tooth mobility occurs, splinting may be indicated. So that the teeth do not loosen, they are fixed, linking in one block.

If the disease is not given importance in the early stages, then more severe periodontitis will develop, the treatment of which is possible only surgically. Such operations are called patchwork. In this case, the gum is incised, the resulting flap is separated from the jaw, deep deposits are removed and the root of the tooth is polished. If bone tissue is affected, then it is replaced with special materials. Then the gingival flap is returned to the place and sutures are applied.

Unreleased periodontitis, the treatment of which can be carried out in combination with alternative methods, is completely curable with an integrated approach. For the prevention and treatment of periodontitis from ancient times use decoctions and tinctures of plants. For rinsing, apply oak bark, St. John's wort, yarrow, calendula, lingonberry leaves, Kombucha, birch buds. One way to fight inflammation is to massage the gums with sea buckthorn and fir oil. It is recommended to eat more fruits and vegetables containing vitamin C.
