Endometriosis is the least studied gynecological disease. Since its inception, several theories have appeared that provoke its development. Not one of them was fully and completely justified or proved. Therefore, the causes of endometriosis are not thoroughly studied.
Most experts who have been researching in this field believe that all violations come from malfunctions in the hormonal background of a woman, in particular, everything depends on the level of estrogen. It is these hormones that are responsible for the development of sexual characteristics in the female body. If there are too many of them synthesized, the growth and enlargement of the inner lining of the
uterus occurs
. Endometriosis, the causes of which, according to experts, depend on this particular factor, must be treated immediately after detection. Otherwise, the development of infertility or more serious diseases is not ruled out.
There are also a number of certain side factors that may one way or another play the role of the cause of endometriosis. Here are some of them:
- Metaplasia, that is, the degeneration of one type of normal tissue into another. There is an assumption that endometrioid tissue may degenerate when it is outside the uterus.
- Retrograde menstruation. An explanation for a similar cause of endometriosis was put forward in 1920. Its essence is that the menstrual tissue after exit enters the fallopian tubes and enters the pelvic area. After this, its subsidence and germination occurs. Subsequently, it was proved that a similar process of the so-called retrograde menstruation is characteristic of almost 90% of women. Therefore, scientists excluded this factor from the category of โcauses of endometriosisโ, motivating this by the fact that not everyone who is distinguished by such a feature has a development of the disease.
- Genetic predisposition. It turns out that first-degree relatives are at greater risk of developing the disease than everyone else. Moreover, if there is still a so-called hereditary predisposition, endometriosis in this case is even more difficult.
- Malfunctions in the immune system. It turns out that in women who have uterine endometriosis, the causes of this can also be found in this violation. However, today there is no authentic evidence of the legitimacy of the existence of this theory.
- The environmental factor. According to the results of certain studies, there are some environmental aspects that can cause the development of the disease. So, they have a toxic effect on the synthesis of sex hormones and the functioning of the immune system as a whole. However, the feasibility of the existence of this theory is also controversial.
Among other things, the causes of the development of the disease can also be considered the presence of excess body weight, inflammatory processes in the genital area, as well as the negative effects of alcohol, tobacco and drugs.
