Designing and scheduling a room has always been a laborious undertaking. And if we are talking about a small room or a narrow passage, then the task is complicated. A small area of space always requires high energy and physical costs. Then you have to rack your brains to make a small room visually larger. Most often this question relates to the design of hallways and corridors.
It is always a pleasure to come home and experience a state of peace, poise and joy. Therefore, we will make our hallway cozy, comfortable and functional. Small halls are found in almost all houses built in the Soviet era. Dark, small-sized, they resemble a wagon platform. But even such a room can be elegant and comfortable.
Typically, the hallway has a small square-shaped space or looks like a narrow corridor, where there is not even room for furniture. Then you have to go for some designer tricks. First of all, you need to get rid of bulky furniture and a mezzanine. They only clutter up space and reduce it. We will use the principle of minimalism.
We are looking for furniture
Furniture should be selected to order, taking into account the individual characteristics of the hallway. An ideal option would be a wardrobe with compartments for outerwear, hats and shoes. It is convenient in that it can be installed without a back wall and the door opens in the same plane with the walls. It is better to install a mirror on the sliding door of the cabinet, preferably in the entire area. Fans of original ideas can put such a cabinet instead of the interior wall. If the space does not allow you to install a cabinet, the hallway is elongated and long, then you will have to use the corners. Corner cabinets and shelves will look very effective, here you can use the mezzanine. There will take the place of things are not essential. And on a free wall you can hang a designer coat hanger. A shoe cabinet will serve as a bench.
Visually expand the room mirror. Their varieties and installation options are many. For a narrow hallway, where there is no room for a closet, it is better to choose a large mirror. An important detail in this case: the distance from the floor to the bottom edge should be about 50 centimeters. The atypical and luxurious decoration of the ceiling from mirror slabs will look. Space will immediately increase three times.
Lighting design
This is the most important accent in the hallway. An extravagant chandelier is completely inappropriate. Let us dwell on spotlights or choose an original lamp with a bright lamp under the ceiling. So the room will seem taller. On a long corridor, lamps, small lanterns or sconces should be placed along the same line at an equal distance from each other. Do not forget to place the sconces near the mirrors. Reflected and diffused light makes the space wider. When placing wall lights, they should be directed up.
Floor
A practical solution for flooring will be porcelain tiles or tiles. It easily removes dirt. Such a floor will be durable, and it does not absorb moisture. For a small space, the tiles should be used large and laid diagonally. Another interesting option would be if you take the flooring outside the hallway and extend it into the room. But this is not suitable for narrow and long hallways.
Color spectrum
The game with color helps a lot to expand the space. For this purpose, you should choose wallpaper for the walls and ceiling in light colors: shades of green, gray, beige, peach. It is better to refuse bright colors; they require constant purity. Large ornaments should be avoided: this narrows the volume. When choosing finishing materials, it is worth remembering that walls are prone to frequent pollution. Therefore, the choice should be made in the direction of washable or vinyl wallpaper. Wall panels should be avoided as they take precious centimeters. It is also worth abandoning the wall decoration with wood, volume plaster, stone. All this is unacceptable for small hallways, and even more so for long and wide. By the way, they can be visually enhanced with optical design effects: for example, using contrasting color finishes. We will make the more distant wall a light color, and the rest dark. Then the hallway, having a small length, will seem longer. In addition, the walls and floors will be lengthened by vertical parallel lines. A small room will extend the horizontal stripes on the walls. Another option: draw an elongated transverse wall with a dark ornament, and a light adjacent to the door.
And one more small detail: in narrow, long and small hallways there should not be small details and objects, and a large number of decorating elements, for example, you can hang one bright tapestry picture medium size.
