Functions and structure of a human tooth

A tooth is a bone formation that is located in the alveoli of the upper and lower jaws. The main function of the jaw is the grinding of food, the formation of intelligible speech and participation in the breathing process.
There are several groups of formations, each of which has an individual tooth structure. For example, 4 incisors located in the foreground of the jaw are designed to directly bite off food particles. On both sides of the incisors are fangs, which stand out in a peculiar form. Their main function is to tear food into small pieces. Large and small molars are involved in the grinding process and more thorough grinding. The farthest teeth that appear by the age of 20 are called wisdom teeth.
The general structure of the tooth is that there is a core and dentin. The tooth core consists of nerve endings and blood vessels, and dentin is a tooth crown covered with hard enamel. The tooth crown has several surfaces, as it surrounds the core on all four sides. Enamel itself is the hardest substance in the entire human body, as it consists of calcium.
The structure of the jaw consists of a certain number of teeth (at maturity is 32), fixed in the upper and lower jaw bone. Between themselves, both parts of the jaw are connected by the temporomandibular joints, due to which the opening and closing of the mouth is possible. With sudden movements, slight clicks can be heard, which is not a serious deviation.
Milk and permanent teeth should be distinguished, since each group has its own functions. Milk teeth appear in the first year of a person’s life, they gradually fall out, and permanent ones grow to replace them. The structure of milk teeth is adapted for the use of solid food, which the child gradually gets used to. Milk teeth are also necessary for the normal formation of the jaw joint and the face as a whole. As a rule, by 1.5-2 years the baby should have 20 milk teeth. A feature of the appearance of the first and subsequent irregular teeth is soreness and inflammation of the gums. Very often, the baby becomes more irritable and capricious, his body temperature rises, diarrhea appears.
The permanent structure of the tooth is formed in 6-7 years. The sequence is exactly the same as for teething. The final change occurs until about 12-13 years old, not including the wisdom teeth, which grow much later. Very often, a wisdom tooth grows painfully and gradually begins to decay. To avoid the stage of destruction of the tooth structure, it is recommended to remove them so that the infected tooth does not violate the structure of the neighboring ones.
Of course, the structure of the tooth must be maintained throughout life. Inadequate oral care and the lack of preventive measures can cause serious diseases of the gums and teeth. It should be remembered that many products negatively affect the condition and health of the teeth, so after each meal it is necessary to clean the oral cavity of food debris. The ideal option is regular brushing and brushing, but this is not always available in the modern flow of life. At the moment, there are many ways to maintain a clean cavity throughout the day (chewing gum, thread, toothpicks, etc.).

The process of brushing your teeth is a separate section in dentistry, as there is a technique and rules for quality dental care. If any violations and deviations occur, it is advisable to seek help from a specialist who will examine and prescribe the necessary treatment or prevent diseases.
