This type of medical activity, as therapeutic dentistry, is aimed at diagnosing, as well as treating, those diseases that are associated with paradental tissues, the mucous membrane of the oral cavity and directly with the teeth. Its functions also include the development of new therapeutic, prophylactic, as well as diagnostic methods and the identification of any connections between diseases of internal organs and dental diseases.
Tasks
Therapeutic dentistry has the following tasks:

- Restoration of teeth that are destroyed with the help of modern materials intended for filling.
- The so-called endodontic treatment. This is the treatment of those tissues that are located in the root canals and in the cavity of the tooth.

Diagnostics in therapeutic dentistry
Therapeutic dentistry is actively involved in the diagnosis and, it is worth noting, in this activity there are different types of it. Doctors use cold and heat to determine tissue reactions. Using these techniques, it is possible to identify, for example, differences between pulpitis, caries and periodontitis. By resorting to electroodontodiagnostics (abbreviated as EDI), it is possible to determine the sensitivity threshold of the teeth and soft tissues, which subsequently helps to detect the presence or absence of their diseases.
Also, therapeutic dentistry conducts microbiological studies, thanks to which it is possible to clarify the nature of the lesion of the oral mucosa. Material is taken from the focus of inflammation and, examining it, they reveal the causative agent of the infection, as well as sensitivity to certain antibiotics.
Treatment methods
Practical therapeutic dentistry is rich in treatment methods that are used in it. The dentist-therapist is armed with a ton of such methods. For example, caries at the spot stage can be treated in various ways, which restore the mineral composition of enamel. One of the popular methods involves the introduction of fluoride and calcium into tooth tissues using electrophoresis and applications. For the treatment of deep stages, doctors carry out the preparation of the so-called carious cavity, followed by filling.
