Rats and mice are long-standing companions of man. Moreover, pleasant things in this neighborhood are not enough. They not only spoil a large amount of food, but also carry many diseases. The same plague medieval cities are entirely obliged to rats, which "carried" throughout Europe a deadly infection.
Of course, fleas were a direct source of infection, but the role of rodents should not be minimized. Therefore, in every private house there must be a rat trap. It is relatively easy to do it with your own hands, and this will require very little time and materials.
What do we need
Before starting work, you need to get a board measuring 250x150x20 mm, several bars with a cross section of 25x25 mm, as well as a metal mesh with a small diameter of holes, tin and nails. The design described by us is safe, when you charge it, you wonβt damage anything.
Working process
How is a rat trap made? With your own hands, you need to nail four bars to the board in a standing position. From above they are screwed on or, again, nailed a frame from the same bars. Note that before starting work, you should beat all the internal surfaces of the board and bars with tin, as otherwise your design will not last long.
After that, you need to attach a grid to the bars outside, and hang a door from one of the ends. Its dimensions are 150x170x20 mm. They hang the door on a pair of small hinges, and from its outside fasten a small bracket that can be made of a regular carpentry nail.
Just note that before you make a rat trap with your own hands, you should imagine the average size of rodents in your area. It is from this indicator that all measurements of the structure will depend.
We make a gatehouse
After that, we need a steel wire with a diameter of about two millimeters, from which we will make a gatehouse. Its length is approximately 45 cm. Note that in one part it should leave the rat trap, while its second part is in it.
At the junction of the two parts you need to make a kind of "step", which the gatehouse will abut against the mesh wall when charging the mechanism. This is the simplest mechanism a rat trap can be equipped with. Itβs not difficult to make it yourself.
On the inside of this structure, you need to make a small hook, on which the bait will be worn. Outside there should be a loop with which the gatehouse will cling to the bracket on the outside of the door. It is necessary to adjust the entire mechanism so that with a slight sway, the loop slides out of the bracket.
Next, our do-it-yourself rat trap (photos of such mechanisms are in the article) should be equipped with a lock.
The principle of the castle
Of course, that when the gatehouse is triggered, the door will slam shut. But so that the rat does not open it, you must additionally provide for a lock. To do this, take a wire with a diameter of four millimeters, which bends in the shape of the letter "P". The ends of this workpiece must be flattened and a pair of holes drilled in them.
With their help, the lock (on the screws) is mounted at a distance of about ten centimeters from the rear end. Now, when the door slams, the rat trap will become a reliable prison for the malicious rodent. Everyone can do it with their own hands.
