Nowadays, a wide range of building materials can satisfy even the most unusual fantasies in the repair and decoration of premises. If in the past century we limited ourselves to purely rectangular shapes, today we can experiment and create intricate bends and configurations from various materials, for example, from drywall. It is a popular building material from which arches, wavy partitions, multi-level ceilings , etc. are made.
But not everyone knows how to bend drywall . You can, of course, use arched GCR, but it is more expensive than usual and not so environmentally friendly. Therefore, many prefer to perform such work from a simple drywall. Let us consider in more detail options for how to bend drywall.
For such works, sheets of not more than 60 cm wide and a perforated profile with dimensions of 60x27 (ceiling) are used.
Methods for bending drywall
Wet bending. From the side of the GCR sheet, which will be compressed, approximately 1.5 cm are punctured with an interval of 15 mm. With a regular foam sponge, the surface with holes is wetted with water. Before bending drywall, you need to make sure that it is sufficiently saturated with water and ready for installation. After this, drywall is installed on the frame, and the workpiece is smoothly bent over it. Then you need to fix the sheet in this position and leave to dry for a day.
Dry bending. Suitable in cases where the bends are assumed to be smooth and slight. On the drywall sheet, grooves of the required depth are cut U-shaped or V-shaped. The workpiece is mounted on a ready-made curved frame, and the furrows are sealed with putty.
Before implementing our recommendations on how to bend drywall, the following should be considered: if the interior design involves a lot of curved shapes, then it would be more advisable to order ready-made bent sheets from the manufacturer.
Drywall mounting technology
For installation work, perforated profiles, self-tapping screws, pliers, metal scissors will be required. For frameless installation, a comb spatula, water level, adhesive composition, with which the GK panels will be attached, are required.
First of all, a frame of perforated profile is installed according to the markings applied in advance. The construction of the structure takes most of the time, as this is the basis of all work with drywall. Depending on what function the drywall performs and in which room, its installation may vary. If this is an interior partition, ceiling or wall decoration (installation of niches), then such work involves the mandatory construction of a supporting structure.
Another example: if you have the task of leveling the walls with drywall, sometimes you can do without a long construction of the frame. Level walls in two ways. As already mentioned, mounting on a structure from a profile is the first, dry method, and the second is gluing sheets of drywall on a special adhesive composition.
Since the installation of drywall on a frame made of a perforated profile is quite complicated for a beginner, and you can not do without the help of a specialist, we will consider the second installation method. Gluing of gypsum plasterboards is the simplest type of installation. Almost any beginner finisher will cope with it. There are two methods for gluing drywall.
The Lighthouse. On the wall or the sheet itself, glue is applied in small portions at a distance of several centimeters (5-7) from each other. Applying drywall to the wall, using the water level, its correct location is arranged. It is very important during installation to set the slabs according to level. Since the adhesive composition quickly sets, it is subsequently impossible to dismantle the sheet without damaging it. A small gap is left at the joints of the sheets in case of expansion of the material. This mounting option must be used in cases where the walls have significant defects in the form of deep irregularities.
"Combed." The adhesive composition is applied with a comb (with centimeter teeth) spatula to the wall. The glue is evenly distributed and the sheet sticks. Nothing complicated. True, this method should be chosen only in cases where the walls do not have noticeable irregularities.
