New Year is the most joyful and anticipated holiday, which is famous for its pomp and scope. On the eve of this wonderful night, it is customary to give gifts, as well as greeting cards with sincere and beautiful wishes. We will talk about how to draw a card for the New Year in this article.
Creative process: where does it all start?
Any creative process, including drawing cards, begins with elementary planning. At this stage, it is worth considering the following points:
- what technique the card will be made in (application of colored paper, hand-drawn picture);
- what shape and size the postcard will be;
- what tools are supposed to be used (paints, pencils, felt-tip pens);
- what will be depicted on the card (it will be a finished printout or a sketch made by hand), etc.

The layout of the future postcard
Suppose you choose the standard option - creating a postcard using a white sheet of cardboard, a simple pencil and felt-tip pens. But first, it’s worth making a kind of greeting card layout.
To do this, you need to take a base sheet and prepare additional decor and tools. Next, bend your workpiece exactly in half and on its front page mark up, bottom and middle.
Then you should choose an image for the main page (we will have a funny Santa Claus with a bag of gifts and a Christmas tree in the background) and draw a pencil with a Happy New Year card.
Moreover, determine the location of the main picture in advance: specify which side of the sheet you plan to place the picture (on the right, left, closer to the center). For example, our character will be located in the middle of the card.
Draw the nose, eyes and mustache

And, finally, draw a semicircle from one mustache to another - this will be the open part of the face of our Santa Claus, not covered by a beard and hat.
How to draw a New Year card: draw a hat and pompom
We return to our character and over the resulting small semicircle (directly above the eyes and nose) we depict the second arch, but of a larger size. Then divide the resulting semicircle in half from above. Put a barely noticeable point and from it draw an arc to the border of the beginning of the mustache.
Proceed slowly and do not overzealous with the guidance of bold lines when creating a drawing, as this is just a sketch. Still, then remove the unnecessary with an eraser. These simple rules must be followed. This approach will help you most accurately draw a New Year's card with a pencil, phasing out all the details.
After drawing part of the cap and connecting the lines, draw a small pompom on the side. The headdress of Santa Claus is ready.
Draw a beard and details of the character's fur coat
After the hat acquires its original appearance, you can start drawing the beard of the hero of the greeting card. To do this, on both sides under the mustache, make a small indent. From each of the points received, draw along the curve. Then slightly sharpen their ends and draw an elongated part of the beard. Here's how to draw a beautiful New Year card using a pencil.
Return to the mustache (near the nose) and draw a small strip. It will be a mouth. After that, on both sides from the beginning of the beard, swipe down the curve (they should be slightly longer than the tip of the beard). Connect the resulting lines to an inverted curve. Round off the ends. It turned out the basic form for the character's fur coat. Draw on the legs below, and on both sides of the fur coat are two triangles - sleeves. Then in each of them draw a mitten and make fur cuffs for them.

We draw a New Year tree
After Santa Claus is ready, next to him we begin to draw a New Year tree. To do this, draw a curved curve to the right of the character, which in the future will become the crown of our tree. We establish the center and as in the mirror image we draw the second same branch line.
Next, before you draw a postcard for the New Year in stages, take a ruler and carefully measure two points, somewhat remote from the previous two sharp corners of the top of the tree. Connect the lines with triangles, and erase the excess. Repeat the same with the third layer of branches. The tree is ready.
How to draw a bag with gifts?
Our next step will be the image of a bag filled with gifts. To do this, make a small indentation at the bottom of the spruce and depict a triangle with an obtuse angle. On the side draw a small tail.
Return the pencil to its beginning and make a small oval with a pencil. From it, take 5 different lines to the very base of the bag and 3 to the resulting tail. These folds will create the effect of a tied New Year's sack. Next, go back to the spruce, draw confetti and toys on it. Add the little details and the greeting card is ready. How to complement the finished postcard?
A finished greeting card can be supplemented with a beautiful congratulatory inscription. And also it makes sense to use additional decor. For example, you can take and decorate the card with sparkles, small snowflakes of different colors. Alternatively, you can play a little with the image and give it volume. For example, fur on a fur coat and hat, as well as a beard can be made from pieces of real or artificial fur (in the absence of such, pieces of cotton wool will do).
In the final design of the spruce, bag and character, you can use the collage technique, cutting out individual details (toys, spruce branches, parts from Santa Claus costume), and then sticking them on a postcard.
