Boats are used for both boat trips and fishing. There are various options, ranging from expensive bulky dural options to small rubber ones. For ease of use, the boats are equipped with engines, the most widely used are two-stroke ones.
The outboard motor, being a complex mechanism during the operation of which friction occurs, cannot do without motor oil. His choice must be treated with special care, as it affects the life of the device.
Motor Differences
The main difference between the four-stroke and two-stroke mechanisms is that for the latter a mixture of gasoline and oil is used. Therefore, the lubricant must comply with other standards. During the combustion process, there should be no release of a large mass of combustion products to prevent them from settling on the internal elements. Also, oil for two-stroke engines should be completely mixed with gasoline and burn simultaneously with it. If during the operation a lot of soot and soot will be produced, subsequently, the engine resources and its power characteristics will decrease, and the consumption, on the contrary, will increase.
Kinds
There are two main types of oil: synthetic and mineral. The latter is mined in the refining process. Compared to synthetic, it has a lower cost. Quality characteristics are also at a lower level. The properties of the oil change at high temperatures, the structure becomes less dense, and a motor breakdown is likely.
Synthetic oil for two-stroke engines, for example, Motul Outboard, does not contain impurities that pose a danger to the mechanism, but has a rather high cost. It is justified by the safety and long-term use of the composition, since the oil retains its original characteristics even in hot weather and during intensive operation of the engine.
Each grease is suitable for different situations and needs of the owners. User priorities can be different: someone chooses reliability, while someone wants to save.
Additives
Despite the abundance of modern engines presented in stores, boats with mechanisms are often found, whose age is 30-40 years. And in terms of efficiency, they are not inferior to new options: they provide maneuvering in dangerous, difficult areas and fast acceleration. At the same time, the resources of most of them are gradually developed, the smallest cracks appear in the cylinders, invisible to the eye. Despite their small size, they increase noise during operation, increase fuel consumption and lead to a decrease in power.
In such situations, two-stroke oil becomes indispensable, the price of which does not exceed 600 rubles, with special additives. Compared to grease, they are characterized by a higher degree of viscosity, due to which the surface coated with additives becomes smoother. Due to this, the characteristics of a worn motor are improved. Of course, sooner or later, repairs will still be needed, but as a temporary measure there is no more suitable option. It is worth noting that there is an opinion that additives harm the motor, but it has no foundation. Quicksilver two-stroke oil with additives is ideal for medium-intensive use of the motor.
Each engine has its own oil
The modern range of oils is represented not only by mineral and synthetic means, but also by options for four-stroke and two-stroke engines. Not possessing sufficient knowledge, the owners of two-stroke engines acquire the wrong two-stroke oil. Its use leads to the fact that when the piston moves its particles are preserved and turn into ash. The mechanism continues its work in a large amount of ash, which subsequently leads to serious and expensive repairs. Therefore, it is strictly forbidden to use oils of inappropriate type.
It is also worth remembering that the established proportions are observed. For operation in standard mode, the proportions should be 50: 1 (gasoline and push-pull oil, respectively). The new motor needs to be treated more carefully and change the ratio to 25: 1.
The choice
In order not to make a mistake with the choice, you must at least read the instructions that are on the canister with the composition, or seek advice from a specialist. It is undesirable to get the first oil that comes across. So you can harm even the Russian unpretentious mechanism. For example, if a standard two-stroke boat mineral oil is used for a complex Yamaha motor, there will be no problems at first, but over time the engine will often stall and power will decrease. The reason is that after the breakdown of mineral oil, a large amount of ash remains, which causes the combustion chamber to become clogged. The result is primarily a decrease in power. Also, the motor may fail if untimely cleaning and prolonged use of the wrong composition. Therefore, when operating a boat with a foreign engine, you should not save; it is better to purchase two-stroke engine oil MANNOL or Makita for fastidious devices.
Where can I buy
It is recommended to purchase oils at special points of sale engaged in the sale of motors, boats and parts for them. You may have to pay a little more. For example, the composition of MANNOL in liter packaging will cost at least 400 rubles, while the market can be found for 300-350 rubles. But not just like that, many people doubt the origin of products sold on the markets and its quality.
For a year, two-stroke oil is not consumed in such a large amount as to try to save. It is better to gain confidence in the reliability of the motor and not to worry during intensive use. When choosing oil, it is recommended that you carefully study the instructions and, if necessary, seek advice from consultants or experienced boaters. Also, do not forget about the existence of fakes, which are most often found in unverified stores. In this case, boat trips will bring only pleasure.
