Slavic Vedas. Svarog - the god of what?

Svarog god of what
The ancient Slavic culture today is half-forgotten. They wanted to intentionally destroy it, forcibly introducing Christianity: after all, faith in the forces of nature and the spirits that inhabit the world did not get along with church canons. However, folk memory is tenacious. And now many descendants of Dazhdbogโ€™s grandchildren are returning to their origins, getting to know how their ancestors lived, what they believed in, and what customs they adhered to.

Svarog - the god of what? People who are just starting to study the Slavic pantheon are interested in this question. By this name, the eastern branch of our ancestors called the spirit of fire, the family hearth, blacksmithing. He was a great warrior and heavenly blacksmith with great power. True, it is worth noting that there is very conflicting information about him. For example, another character of Slavic mythology - Dazhboga (Sun) is called in the Ipatiev Chronicle the son of Svarog, that is, the god of Heaven. Others consider him a sun patron. The Slavic god Svarog has other names. The Baltic tribes called him Svarozhich or Radgost and worshiped him in Retra-Radgost (Poland). His attributes were spears and a horse, as well as a huge boar. In Slovakia, he was known under the name Rarog. It has much in common with the Etruscan Velhans, the Finnish Ilmarinen, the Roman Volcano.

Who is Svarog, the god of which, it becomes clear if you translate his name from Sanskrit. The word โ€œswarโ€ means โ€œlight, skyโ€, the suffix โ€œogโ€ turns it into a blacksmith. Therefore, the deity can be considered the creator of the sacred fire, its keeper and master. He also patronized the development of knowledge: like the Greek Hephaestus, this god gave mites to people and taught them to melt iron and copper. Svarog established the first laws on earth, bequeathing to men only one wife, and women only one husband.

The sun god Svarog was a descendant of the chthonic creatures of Sivirat and Krut, but in contrast to them, he owned light, fire and ether. We can assume that this deity replaced the more ancient demiurge gods (as Zeus replaced his father Uranus on Olympus) and gave birth to a new generation. It creates with hands, without the help of words or magic, therefore it creates a material world.

Svarog - the god of what? Since he patronized the blacksmiths, any workshop of these craftsmen, any horn was his temple. In a real place of worship, a fire should always burn before an idol, metal objects should be present. For example, a hammer, a stick-scrap, an anvil are suitable, because it was Svarog who brought people into the Iron Age. For this, humanity brought him a demand in the form of cottage cheese and cottage cheese pancakes, symbols of heavenly loaves. And the idol itself may have an unprepossessing appearance: an ordinary stone of large sizes with the sign of fire on it. The feast of the deity is celebrated on November 14, the day of Christian saints Kuzma and Demyan.

Who is Svarog, the god of which, is not known for certain. We know that he did not enter the Pantheon, compiled by Vladimir before the adoption of Christianity, but he is mentioned by ancient Russian written sources. Most likely, this was not a mythology character formed by someone, but a collective image of the natural element of fire and fire, tamed by man. And before such a force, a person has always experienced awe.
