Nowadays, manual work is becoming increasingly valuable. Doing something with your own hands is not only a way to create an exclusive thing for your home, but also the opportunity to start making money on it. Today we will try to make a wonderful element of decor - a wall clock in the style of Provence - with our own hands.
What is the Provence style? France is its homeland, because everything connected with it will remotely resemble the country style or Provence, which are similar. This style is based on simplicity and natural beauty: dried flowers, landscapes, still lifes, natural decor elements, for example, wooden beads - all this speaks of Provence.
What do we need?
To make a wall clock in Provence style, we need:
- The basis for the watch. It is advisable to choose a wooden base, but you can use any other convenient material.
- Acrylic varnish to cover the surface.
- Sandpaper to remove bumps.
- A drawing, photo or any image printed on paper that will be glued to the base.
- Paints to match the color of the image.
- Glue (PVA and superglue).
- Decoration elements (ribbons, beads, herbarium, etc.).
- Clockwork.
Armed with everything you need, let's get to work.
First step. Work with the foundation
We will look at a wall clock in the Provence style using a wooden base, because it is convenient, reliable, and also corresponds to the design style itself.
- Take our base. Please note that there must be a hole for the arrows and the mechanism. It can be done with a drill or purchased a ready-made watch base.
- We thoroughly sanded the surface to eliminate all irregularities.
- Now you need to cover the tree with two layers of varnish. Each layer is thoroughly dried, after which we carefully go through the varnish with sandpaper to level the surface.
Now put the foundation aside and move on to working with the picture.
Second phase. Processing a photo or drawing
You can choose any photo you like. But since we make a wall clock in the Provence style, it is necessary that the picture matches the canons of this style. Give preference to soft colors: pink, blue, light yellow, green and other pastel colors.
- Take our picture and cut it out in accordance with the shape of the base.
- The drawing must be covered with several layers of varnish (2 or 3 will be enough). The layers should not be too thick so that they do not crack after application. Each layer is thoroughly dried and sanded.
- Now we use PVA glue. On the back of the photo we put a thick layer of glue and apply the image to the base.
- Carefully smooth the surface, expel air bubbles, remove excess glue. You need to work very carefully, as there is a risk of damaging the photo.
- We will use sandpaper again. We need the edges of the photo and the basics to be as equal as possible, so carefully overwrite the edges.
- Now we again need to work with the foundation. Using paints, fill the empty space on a wooden base to the color of the photo.
- When the paints dry, we cover our wall clock in Provence style with varnish completely, capturing not only the photo, but also the base. Enough 2-3 layers of varnish.
- It is required to dry each layer for 30-40 minutes. After applying the last coat, let the work dry for several hours.
It remains to complete the final touches.
The final stage. Dressing
We almost finished our Provence style wall clock. The photo should be bright due to varnish and completely solid. After making sure of this, we proceed to the completion.
- Take superglue and our decoration elements. Turn on your imagination! Glue the beads, herbarium and other cute little things as you wish. Remember to stick the numbers. Allow work to dry thoroughly.
- The last step is to insert the clockwork and start our watch. Done!
Now you can hang our creation in the most prominent place in the room - such beauty should be in sight!
