The timing belt of VAZ models is not so difficult to replace - and you can cope with this task yourself.

First you need to know about five basic rules:
- As with replacing any other part, it is important to pay attention to the quality of the new part. Spare parts are divided into original and non-original. If your car is a VAZ brand, you can safely take the factory part. You will not only win in price and quality, but installing a timing belt will bring much less trouble.
Sixty thousand kilometers is the rate of development of any belt, but its replacement is necessary immediately if you find signs of deformation.
If there are traces of engine oil on the timing belt, it must be replaced. Complete cleaning of the oil is not possible, which in the final result will lead to accelerated wear.
If you are buying a used car, then you must start the engine inspection with the timing belt.
Distribution mechanisms have very stringent requirements regarding reliability and durability. Therefore, the installation of the timing belt should be carried out in accordance with the recommendations of the manufacturers and using only original parts.
To replace the belt, you will need the following tools:
ring wrenches 17 and 15, a large screwdriver or a mounting, a snap ring puller. Camshafts rotate from the crankshaft due to a
belt drive. Therefore, special attention must be paid to replacing this part, otherwise even the slightest mistake can lead to major repairs of the engine. If you do not know how to proceed and in what order to carry out the replacement / installation, follow the instructions below.
The timing belt installation on VAZ models is very similar in many respects:
- It is necessary to remove the terminals from the battery, and the belt from the generator.
Set the position of the piston of the first cylinder to TDC.
Using a 15 mm spanner, loosen the tension pulley and turn it to decrease the belt tension.
Remove the belt from the camshafts, the pulley and the idler pulley.
With a key of 17, it is necessary to unscrew the bolt of the crankshaft pulley and remove it with the washer, and then remove the generator drive pulley.
Remove the belt drive pulley with the washer and remove the old belt.
Before installing a new one, it is necessary to clean all the rollers and pulleys from dirt, and in the end to treat with degreasing liquid.
Install a new timing belt and adjust the tension.
Replace all removed parts.
