Late termination of pregnancy cannot be carried out at any request of the patient, because it can lead to serious consequences. Carrying out this procedure unofficially poses a threat not only to the health, but also to the woman's life. But there are times when doctors are forced to have a so-called surgical abortion for medical reasons.
Since for a period exceeding 20 weeks, all of the many vital processes of the child are already formed, so many perceive abortion in the later stages as killing a baby. But how can one judge so cruelly if there are pathologies that threaten life. As a rule, such a radical method as surgical abortion is resorted to only as a last resort. These include serious deviations of the physical or moral state of a woman or pathology in the development of the fetus.
The terms of termination of pregnancy affect the determination of the method of procedure. There are three options for terminating a pregnancy:
- Surgical abortion
- Artificial premature birth
- Partial birth
The first method involves expanding the cervix and removing the fetus using a special tool. It is impossible to remove all parts from one time, so the uterus is cleaned of residues using vacuum aspiration. Such a procedure is carried out under the influence of general anesthesia and lasts no more than half an hour. If complications occur, the duration of the operation increases, for example, if bleeding has begun. Such an operation is prescribed in the second trimester and not later.
Late termination of pregnancy can be accomplished through partial birth. This method is characterized by a lengthy implementation process, as it is performed on average in 3 days. First of all, the specialist expands the cervix, after which a special tool pulls the fetus by the leg, and only the body gets it. Then, with scissors, the body is separated from the head. At the next stage, a tube is inserted through the vagina into the fetal head, with the help of which the brain is sucked. The skull box after such manipulation is reduced in size and it becomes easier to remove, this is also done through the suction tube. As a rule, the appointment of such a procedure is performed quite rarely, approximately in the third trimester.
Termination of pregnancy in the later stages by the method of artificial childbirth is carried out in exceptional cases and is extremely rare. A special drug is introduced into the woman's body, which stimulates the walls of the uterus to actively reduce. At the same time, amniotic fluid is filled with saline, which mortally affects the embryo.
For each of these procedures for a significant period of time, there must be significant reasons. In general, indications for abortion are either medical or social. Medical indications are the presence of pathologies in the mother or the unborn baby. For example, if a woman has found a serious disease that affects the development of the child, for example, rubella, then termination of pregnancy is necessary. Or in the event that a fetal cerebral palsy or fetal pathology is detected, they also resort to surgical abortion.
But there are situations when pregnancy proceeds normally, but a woman is not ready to leave her baby and wants to get rid of him even at a later date. Then a special commission is convened to listen to the reasons why the woman desires such an intervention and decide on the advisability of the procedure. For example, a serious social cause is considered to be the most depressing state as a result of a man breaking up with a woman due to pregnancy.
