Soon, the prison changed its direction and became one of the places for the development of agriculture. The population of Kemerovo in those days was represented mainly by peasants.

Coal boom

A big revival in the village occurred after the discovery of the Shcheglovsky coal deposit. Then, according to the order of Anna Ioannovna, the Siberian tract was laid . These were both local peasants and visitors from various provinces. Prisoners of war represented a special category of workers.

The breakthrough in industry occurred with the advent of Soviet power. For the active development of the coal and metallurgical industries, the government decides to establish an industrial colony in Kemerovo. Workers arriving at AIC were involved in the development of coal deposits and the development of infrastructure. They paved roads, built houses, schools, hospitals.

In 1924, the city became a district center, and eight years later received its modern name. Shcheglovsk was renamed Kemerovo.

War time

With the outbreak of World War II, most of the townspeople went to the front. But mining enterprises continued to fully supply not only the army, but also the country with fuel. In the workplace, men and women have replaced men and women. This once again suggests that the entire population of the city of Kemerovo, from small to large, is very hardworking.

At the height of the war, the city received the status of a regional center. A fifth of the settlements of the Novosibirsk region became subordinate to Kemerovo. Such a development of events is not surprising because the residents of Kemerovo accounted for more than forty percent of the total population of the Novosibirsk region. In addition, the city was already an administrative center, had a powerful industrial potential.
