Recently, people doing repairs in their home, prefer natural materials. They are not cheap, so many have the question of how to make an imitation of a tree. At the same time, someone wants to get it all over the wall, someone only wants a texture. Let's try to figure out how this can be done, and what tools will be needed for this.
Choosing materials and tools
The appearance of wood is created using various tools and materials that can be purchased in specialized stores. There are also options that do not require large expenses, since they are made from improvised materials.
So, to create an imitation of a tree bark, you may need:
- Spatulas. You can get a rough surface using a rubber or comb product. It is best to have several models in your arsenal: flexible and rigid, straight and drop-shaped (of different sizes).
- Brushes. Hard brushes will help to form a pattern and volumetric stripes, to paint indentations - soft products (art or painting).
- Rollers. If you use a relief tool, then a beautiful pattern will remain on the plaster from it. Instead, you can take a regular roller and wrap it with thread, tape or polyethylene.
- Any tools at hand: impression, scalpel, stack, awl, scissors and even your own fingers.
- Sponges, brushes, fur gloves and other products necessary for applying paint.
Apply plaster
Before creating an imitation of wood using plaster, you must select the material itself. It is of two types: structural and textured. Structural plastering consists of small solid particles, due to which furrows and strips are obtained. Textured mixes, on the contrary, create a perfectly even surface on which you like the patterns and patterns you like.
When working with plaster, we adhere to the following sequence:
- We take a stainless spatula, apply the mixture to the wall (layer thickness - 3-6 mm) and smooth it.
- With a clothes brush, gently move up and down, after which we wait 10–20 minutes to dry.
- We wipe the dried plaster with a smooth spatula, making the same movements (from top to bottom).
- Mix the base gel with paint to make it look like wood. We put it on the wall with a roller and wait for it to dry completely.

In country houses, rustic decoration is often found, which is typical for decoration with imitation of timber. The tree looks very concise, cute and reliable here. The material has many advantages, among which the leaders are durability, health safety and ease of installation.
Installation of wooden elements does not require much time and effort:
- We fasten the waterproofing film and the crate to the wall. For these purposes, a beam with a section of 30 × 30 mm with a pitch of 400-800 mm is used.
- We fill the space between the crate with thermal insulation, on top of which the vapor barrier is laid. So the insulation will not get wet and deteriorate.
- We proceed to install the material that simulates the beam. We carry out installation from the bottom up and constantly check the evenness of the casing.
- We fix the products with screws or nails.
We use paints
One of the easiest ways to imitate wood with your own hands is to use specialized paints (for example, Kaowa Sementol). Such compositions can be applied on surfaces of different densities and from any material (wood, plastic, metal, etc.). Their main advantages: ease of application and resistance to various environmental influences. To get the necessary texture, you need to take the right tool - a flat hard brush made of natural bristles. The paint does not require special preparation and can be used immediately after opening the can.
Once the material and tools are selected, get to work:
- we clear a surface of pollution and defects;
- if necessary, wipe it with sandpaper and primer;
- we paint, making long stripes with a brush;
- waiting for complete drying (1-3 hours).
Wallpaper "under the tree"
Another easy way to create an imitation of wood on the wall is to stick wallpaper. In specialized stores you can buy material that with its texture will resemble any breed: pine, oak, spruce, alder, etc. Such wallpapers can be different: paper, vinyl, non-woven or liquid.
The textured material, which has a layered structure, various irregularities and roughness, looks very natural and unusual. Rare wood species are taken as its basis: white oak, zebrano, etc. This allows you to achieve absolute resemblance to natural wood, but such material will also be quite expensive. Instead, you can choose a more affordable option - photo wallpaper. They look stylish, beautiful, unusual and very believable. With their help, a feeling will be created that a person is in a real forest.
Floor coverings
As for the floor, they create an imitation “under the tree” on it using special tiles. It repeats the relief, pattern and lacquer coating, as a result of which it is difficult to distinguish from a real wooden surface.
The design of tile collections is divided into several groups:
- Classic (aged) version. This material repeats the pattern of parquet laid out with squares, Christmas tree, etc. There is a possibility to choose the shade of the seams, which can be gray, cream, milk, black, brown, etc.

Imitation of carving and aging of wood
This effect can be achieved on any surface, it is enough to purchase the necessary materials. To work, you need a cleaned surface, a toothpick, putty knife, putty, acrylic paints and varnish.
We carry out the work in the following order:
- we prepare a surface: we clear it of pollution and defects;
- cover it with a primer;
- putty and smooth it;
- we take a toothpick and make an imitation of the texture of the tree (draw lines);
- paint the surface with acrylic paints and varnish.
- You can also easily get the look of aged wood:
- raise the pile of the surface with water and lightly sand it;
- create the effect of a wormhole: fill the deep holes with dark putty and remove it with a chisel;
- apply stain and wash it off;
- wait for drying and grind the surface;
- fill the cracks with dark paint and cover with stain.
Wood on the wall from improvised materials
You can decorate the interior not only with texture, but also with a whole tree. To do this, you can use various improvised materials: branches, paper and other stationery.
You can get an imitation of a tree in the following ways:
- Use dry branches in the decoration to complement the main image on the wall.
- Cut wood from colored paper or old wallpaper. True, with large compositions will have to tinker.
- Supplement the image with cuts of branches or trunks. To do this, you can select a tree in the country and saw it in circles.
- Make it from a fabric, such as burlap.
- Stick the buttons into the wall and pull the threads between them so that the desired image is obtained.
- Draw a tree outline on the wall, and then fill it with plaster. It turns out very beautifully and voluminously.
