How the Blue Bird group spread its wings

The music of the 70s-80s, many associate it with the songs of the Blue Bird group. The hits performed by this talented collective continue to sound today. But, like most other instrumental ensembles, the Blue Bird group (photo shown below) has undergone replacements in its team.

The origin of the group

It all started in 1972, when the VOA “Voices of Polesye” was formed in the city of Gomel. This young group, like other beginners, performed Western songs. The team was played by experienced musicians. Boris Belotserkovsky was on drums, and Mikhail Bolotny was on keyboards. Sergey Drozdov, a student at the music school, became the vocalist in the group; he also played the bass guitar.

After some time, saxophonist Robert, the brother of Bolotny, joined this ensemble. Since he has already performed with several VIAs and had some experience, he contributed to the fact that the team went around the country, giving concerts.

Becoming a Blue Bird

In 1973, this group began work at the Gorky Philharmonic and changed its name to Sovremennik. Here they were joined by Evgenia Zavyalova, Yura Metelkin and Yura Yanin.

In the fall of 1975, Robert agreed with the director of the Kuibyshev Philharmonic that their team would move to them. On October 10, the ensemble arrives in Kuibyshev and begins its activity by taking on a new name that Robert came up with. From that day on, the Blue Bird group was born, which was to become world famous.

Way of success

By the end of 1975, a small record appeared on sale, on which there were only four songs. Among them was “Maple” performed by “Blue Bird”. It was this song that made the group instantly popular and helped them literally spread their wings. The voice of this hit was Sergey Drozdov.

Soon, in February 1976, the ensemble went to their first poster concert in Togliatti. This day, February 22, is considered the birthday of VIA. In the same year, the Blue Bird group held its first concert in Moscow. Zhuravel L. Ya. Became the director of VIA, who arranged tours for them.

The Blue Bird group flew up to heaven and continuously gave concerts throughout the country. They also went to competitions in other countries, where they became laureates. For example, in 1979 they traveled to the Czech Republic at the Banska Bystrica festival. Every major festival, whether in Russia or a neighboring country, could no longer do without a Blue Bird.

Such popularity was explained by the fact that the team adhered to one genre in the performance. For this, only two brothers and some composers who could catch the specifics of the group wrote songs. These included Yu. Antonov, S. Dyachkov, V. Dobrynin.

Lull period

In 1991, the team went on tour in the United States. But after returning, the Blue Bird group suspended its activities, and they began a time of calm. The members of this ensemble began to engage in their own projects. But during the existence of this collective, 2 vinyl collections, 8 large albums and 11 minions were created and recorded. All this was sold out in millions of copies.

It can be noted that the composition of the Blue Bird group often changed, and after the initial group disbanded in 1991, some of its members recruited their own musicians and created each ensemble, and everyone called it “Blue Bird”.

Only in 1999, Bolotny Robert approved the restoration of the team, which included Drozdov, Barkov, Levkin and Komarov. Since 2002, when Drozdov left the group, the ensemble began to change again. All members of the collective write music, poems, and also sing. At the same time, Drozdov did not stop singing and gave concerts, gaining new musicians for himself.
