This usually happens due to frequent trips on rough roads, sharp braking and acceleration. This mechanism is located directly near the brake drums. That is why, in order to access them, it is necessary to remove the brake drums, pads, after which it is necessary to completely remove the half shaft.
How to identify a bearing malfunction
The VAZ-2107 semiaxis bearing wears out during operation, sometimes the seat under it breaks. Malfunctions of this element can be identified by several signs:
- A buzz from the rear axle appears. Sometimes it goes into crackle and creak. Moreover, the higher the speed, the louder these sounds. Not to be confused with the same buzz that comes from the wear of the rear axle gears.
- The balls fall out and the separator is destroyed, the half shaft jumps out of its seat when moving.
- Increased rear wheel play. Diagnosis is quite simple, you just need to install the car on the jack and shake the wheel several times. A knock and free play indicate that a malfunction is present.
- Sometimes the rear wheels are jammed, as a result of which a serious accident can occur.
The design of the VAZ-2107 semiaxis bearing is simple and reliable, it can last quite a long time. But if the car experiences very heavy loads, moves on bad roads, or the bearing is made of low-quality material, the resource is significantly reduced. The bearing cannot be repaired; only its replacement will be required. With deformation and excessive wear, new mechanisms must be installed.
What tools will be required
In order to replace the VAZ-2107 semiaxis or bearing, you will need a standard set of tools:
- Jack.
- Key 19 for removing the wheel bolts.
- Vorotok and a set of socket heads.
- Hammer and chisel.
- Angle grinder, better known as "grinder".
- A few flat and Phillips screwdrivers.
- Pliers.
- Reliable vice mounted on a workbench.
It is imperative to purchase a new bearing and oil seal of the VAZ-2107 semi-axis. It is advisable to find a small pipe before work that can be easily put on the axle shaft. With its help, a new bearing is installed.
Mechanism disassembly
To replace the VAZ-2107 axle shaft or dismantle its bearing, you do not need to use an inspection hole or a flyover. All work can be performed in the following order:
- Place the jack under the repaired side and loosen the wheel mount.
- Lift the car.
- Remove the wheel completely.
- Remove the brake mechanism. Please note that it is quite difficult to remove the brake drum. To do this, it is necessary to apply uniform blows with a hammer through a spacer from a wooden bar. The material of which the drum is made is very fragile. Therefore, when striking a metal object, several pieces may break off.
- Remove the pads, having previously removed the springs.
- Unscrew the axle shaft using the socket head at 17.
After this, it is necessary to extend the entire semi-axis from its place. To do this, you need to take the handle, install it between the brake cylinder and the rear of the axle shaft. Vorotok is used as a lever.
Installing a new bearing
Remove the old bearing - this can be done with a hammer. If he stuck to the axle shaft, you can use the grinder. But before that, be sure to lock the entire structure in a vice. Follow these steps:
- Thoroughly clean the entire surface of the axle shaft, rinse it with solvent and wipe with a rag.
- Install a new bearing and lock its position with the snap ring.
- Use a flat screwdriver to pull out the gland.
- Install a new oil seal, for this, carefully hammer it with a hammer using a spacer. The socket head 32 fits perfectly.
After all the steps taken, it is necessary to install the rear axle shaft of the VAZ-2107 and assemble the wheel drive mechanism.
Features of the replacement
When replacing the VAZ-2107 axle shaft, it is necessary to adhere to certain rules that will help speed up the process of work:
- When cutting an old bearing with a grinder, the main thing is not to damage the surface of the axle shaft. Therefore, cut only the outer part together with the separator. It is not necessary to completely cut the inner ring; make a few small cuts on it. You can finally split it by installing a chisel and inflicting several sharp blows with a hammer.
- Install a new bearing on the axle shaft with a hammer. Please note that you cannot hit the bearing race; in this case, it may collapse or deform. It is for this purpose that a piece of tube is used, which is worn on the half shaft. Warming up the bearing housing is not recommended, as it may lose its properties. If annealing occurs, the ductility will increase significantly and its hardness will decrease.
When carrying out work, try not to damage the axle shaft. Work with a hammer as accurately as possible, because it is very simple to destroy metal parts.
