How to draw a dog in stages: a master class

Each person can develop the ability to draw. There are special training workshops. From them you can learn, for example, how to draw a dog in stages. Carefully considering the pictures taken in stages, you should repeat the steps - in the master class, each new stroke is painted in red.

  1. First, an auxiliary construction is applied to the paper, which is based on geometric shapes. This in our case will be two approximately the same diameter of the circle and one larger oval. You need to arrange them in this way: an oval in the middle - it is like a vertex of an obtuse angle in a triangle, circles on other vertices - this will be the head and back of the body. Mentally drawn straight from the oval to the back of the trunk should not be parallel to the ground, as the dog has hind legs shorter than the front, so this part of the body is slightly lower. In addition, all figures of the additional construction should not be in contact, and between the circle-head and the oval-body, the distance should be slightly larger than between the circle-back and the oval.
  2. Since it is difficult to draw a dog in stages without additional hints, an eraser is sure to come in handy. The image should be applied with a simple pencil with light movements. The second step will be the connection of all additional figures with a common smooth curve.
  3. A rather difficult stage is the drawing of the dog's muzzle, open mouth and ears. Since it is necessary to draw a shepherd dog in stages as similar as possible, it should be noted that the muzzle of this breed is elongated, straight; she has a rather large forehead, but not convex. Also, the dog has a small nose bridge - the transition of the forehead to the face. It should further be noted that from the extreme point of the muzzle - the "leather nose" - the line of the picture goes down at an acute angle equal to about 60 degrees.

  4. The neck line should continue smoothly downward, changing direction - these will be the front legs, so you need to make two lines close to the perpendiculars to the ground. The top line should also be extended smoothly downward - this will be the โ€œoutlineโ€ of the tail.
  5. Since it is impossible to draw a dog in stages without knowledge of the biological structure of this animal, you should carefully consider the drawings and photographs of the dog, as well as familiarize yourself with the structure of its skeleton. Upon careful examination, the artist will definitely pay attention to the fact that the front paws have an interesting structure: the elbow is located at the very top of the paw and is practically pressed to the body, followed by a straight forearm, which at the very bottom goes into the wrist - the tapering part, and then the fingers are located - metacarpus - on which the dog walks. The metacarpus is slightly shifted forward relative to the straight forearm. At the same stage, auxiliary guide lines should be applied for drawing the hind legs, and on the oval below - draw a slightly protruding chest and a more hollow belly.

  6. The hind legs of the shepherd also have an interesting structure. The dog steps on the fingers - metacarpus. Next is the metatarsus, which is depicted under a slight bias in the direction opposite to the front paws. In the middle of the length of the hind leg of the dog is the protrusion of the hock joint, which corresponds to the human skeleton heel. If you put a point under the tail of the dogโ€™s drawing and build a right triangle, the second vertex of which will be the angle of the hock ledge, then the vertex of the right angle will just indicate the femoral joint, which protrudes rounded on the hind limb towards the underbelly.
  7. Since we were already able to draw the dog with a pencil in stages, we only managed to remove the excess lines with an eraser, draw a more clear outline of the shepherd and put some shadows on it with strokes.
