A small Siberian town is conveniently located on the banks of a small river by Russian standards with the funny name Uk. Fascinating with its beauty, almost virgin taiga landscapes will not leave indifferent any nature lover. The best thing about this small town is that it has remained an almost large, cozy village.
general information
The city is located in the forest-steppe zone of Western Siberia (on the extreme western part of the Ishim Plain), on the Uk River (the right tributary of Tobol, slightly south of the confluence of the Begila River). In the north and southwest Zavodoukovsk is surrounded by forests. 100 km southeast is the regional center of Tyumen. In the northwest (28 km) is the nearest city of Yalutorovsk.
There are two stable versions of the origin of the name of the village. According to one of them, the word "Zavodoukovsk" can be understood as "factory on the Uka", it is associated with the river and the distillery located on it. Uk - from ancient Turkic translates as an arrow. Other researchers believe that here, in the 18-19 centuries, a special settlement, traditional for those years, could be organized - a factory intended for the rest of transit convicts sent to Siberia.
Story
The date of foundation of the village of Ukovskaya is considered to be 1729, then there were 8 yards in it, in 1749 there were already 25 of them. In 1740-1744, the Ukovsky distillery was built, which at the turn of the 18-19 centuries was nationalized and closed. Only in 1860 was the industrial production of alcohol re-opened. In 1912, a railway passed through the village.
After the revolution in 1929, Zavodoukovsk became a working village, a grain farm was organized, and an elevator was built. April 26, 1960 received the status of a city of regional subordination. In the following years (in Soviet and post-Soviet), several industrial enterprises were built, which now provide the population of Zavodoukovsk with jobs.
Population before the revolution
At the time of the founding of the village, which consisted of 8 yards, the population of Zavodoukovsk was several dozen inhabitants. 58 years later, in 1787, when the village received the status of the rural district of Zavodoukovsky, there were already 180 yards and 988 women and 980 men lived. In subsequent years, industry collapsed in the village, so the population grew due to the movement of peasants from the central provinces.
Modern population
In the post-revolutionary years, the population of Zavodoukovsk continued to grow due to the organization of new jobs in agriculture. The first official data dates back to 1939, while 6,000 residents lived in a working village. During the war years, thousands of evacuated and front-line soldiers undergoing treatment arrived in the settlement. Many of them remained to live in this beautiful Siberian village.
In 1959, 8700 people already lived in the village. In 1967, 15,000 people lived in the city (the status of the city was assigned in 1960). In addition to natural growth, the population of Zavodoukovsk increased due to the accession of two villages.
In subsequent years, the number of inhabitants grew quite rapidly. In the best years of Soviet power, from 1970 to 1979, it increased from 17,461 to 21,450 people. Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, in 1989, 25,827 people lived here. The maximum number of population - 26,800 inhabitants - was reached in 1998.
Unlike many Russian cities, in the crisis 90s, the population continued to increase due to the construction of modern facilities. In subsequent years, the number of inhabitants grew and fell slightly. In the past three years, the population of Zavodoukovsk has been growing due to natural growth. In 2017, 26,006 people lived in the city.
