Necessary materials and tools

To create beautiful glass paintings, the master will need synthetic brushes, cotton buds, toothpicks, embossed stamps, drawing patterns, glass contours , a palette, acrylic water paints or paints based on alkyd resins, acrylic varnish, solvent, alcohol to wipe the surface before starting work. Of course, you should decide on what the masterpiece will be executed on, and come up with the image plot itself. Stamps and templates are necessary for those who do not rely on their abilities, because not everyone is inherent in being a talented artist. Therefore, it is enough for a beginner draftsman to process the drawing selected somewhere until a contour template is obtained in which the outline of the depicted object is saved. Now you should thoroughly wipe the surface with alcohol - degrease. And you can start painting on glass.

Work sequence

Those who have artistic abilities can do without stamps and templates, making a sketch with a marker, so to speak, “from the head”. The rest apply a template to the glass and carefully circle it with either a marker or a contour. By the way, the contours are special paints in tubes, but thicker than those intended for coloring. If painting on glass with acrylic is performed using the contour, the drawing is more like a stained glass window, a little “cartoony”, as if clearly outlined. Without a contour, an image similar to a painting is obtained, more realistic. The contour should be applied carefully, in an even continuous layer. If something suddenly went wrong, you need to immediately correct it using a toothpick, cotton swabs, solvent or water. Coloring is necessary only after the contour has completely dried, that is, after 10-15 minutes.

Even ordinary transparent glasses can be turned into beautiful works of art. For their painting, cone-shaped brushes should be taken. To apply small parts, you need a very thin brush. Glass painting without a contour is performed in almost the same way as artists who paint on canvas do it. That is, dipping the brush pile in the paint, the draftsman easily touches it with the glass, trying to evenly distribute the color on the surface. Smears should be done quickly before the paint has dried. Sometimes a brush with a hard pile or toothpicks can come in handy for a master - to give a relief to the image. After the drawing has dried, you can cover it with transparent acrylic varnish. So the picture will retain brightness and freshness longer.
