The clock was released more than three hundred years ago, and since then, mankind has not imagined life without them. But we must pay tribute to the fact that more and more often we use other gadgets to determine the time, for example, screens of phones, tablets, fitness bracelets and the like. But from this the clock for the interior has not ceased to be in demand, they just more and more play only a decorative role.

Watch history

People used the solar and hourglass in ancient times. But the exact time of creating an accessory with a dial is unknown. It is believed that the Arabs invented them - an involuntary confirmation is the use of the dial with Arabic numerals so far. And, by the way, a historically proven fact that has documented evidence. This is a gift that was presented by the Arab caliph to Karl the Great - a device with the usual clockwork.

For the first time, watches in the interior began to be used back in the Renaissance, when these mechanisms began to be used in architecture, decorating the buildings of many European capitals.

Since the 17th century, Europeans were the first to constantly count time. Galileo Galilei contributed a lot to this - it was with him that the clock began to show the time most accurately. Later, the habit of counting time spread throughout the world. Then the real watch boom began - aristocrats and commoners began to use them not only to keep track of time, but also as a decoration. Over time, many models appeared, both expensive, decorated with precious stones chronometers, and simple, uncomplicated.

Wrist watches on a chain, watches in the interior - photos of such accessories appeared a bit later. Carelessly sticking out from folds of clothes or hanging on a side chain, or an aristocrat in rich clothes against the background of watches - illustrations of those years indicate how much people valued this invention.

Russia got acquainted with the “Aglitsky mechanism” thanks to its innovator, Peter I. It was he who brought them to our country, after which the massive fashion for watches began. They were collected, they paid for goods, passed by inheritance. By the way, if it weren’t for this tradition, we probably would never have held antique mechanisms in our hands, and even nowadays you can find real antique watches in the interior of modern furniture.

What is the dial?

At one time in Russia there was a sign that said that you should not present the watch as a gift. But now empty superstitions are fading into the background and the clock has become a good present for a housewarming party, wedding, and just for a birthday.

Of course, we are not talking about shabby alarms, but a large clock in the interior of the living room is very stylish. And given that such a mechanism is quite expensive, then donating them is not at all a shame.

But what can a watch stand out in the first place? Of course the dial. Modern designers manage to make them works of art. What are the dials?

With strokes that replace digital notation.
With a phantom dial, which is completely missing signs.
With a dotted image - a kind of line art, but the latter are replaced by dots.

The option of wall clocks in the interior is quite popular, when the hands are mounted directly on the wall, and the dial itself is completely absent. Sometimes such a mechanism merges so much with the surrounding interior that it would seem that stop the hands and no one will notice the clock.

Truly expensive watches will never be clumsy and screaming about their price. On the contrary, these are usually modest mechanisms with some kind of “twist” and a very accurate timing.

In antique watches, Roman numerals were often used, sometimes elongated in the middle and as if turned upside down. Now this design technique is used by hand-made masters, that is, handmade.

Interior. Very often, such watches in the interior are used as decoration, it does not even matter whether they will show time. A prerequisite for such a watch is a memorable appearance. Most often they are used to convey some hidden meaning, for example, about the transience of time. The main functionality of such devices is interior decoration. In the same category can be attributed quite ordinary watches, on the dial of which some date was recorded, for example, the birth of the first-born.

Board. The most functional watch in the room. Most often they serve as an alarm clock. But if the style is expressed in a strictly defined topic, then a table clock with the interior should be in harmony.

Wall mounted. The category of watches in which the largest selection is presented. On sale there are wall mechanisms of various forms - in the form of toys for children, in the form of kitchen utensils. The most popular wall clocks that have come to us from our grandmothers are cuckoo devices. They can still be found on sale, and they still cause a smile.

Floor standing. These watches are now found only in the offices of reputable companies. To meet such a mechanism at home is very rare. But once it was the most popular watch. People went to crimes to take possession of them. They were smuggled in, since such devices were not manufactured in our country.

Fireplace. Also more popular in the Middle Ages than at present. Mantel clocks can also be found either in offices or in rich houses stylized as the Middle Ages. And those lucky ones who have preserved the old mantel clock in the interior use them as a decoration even in the absence of a fireplace.
