The power unit ZMZ-24D is part of a series of legendary engines for the Volga. The power unit of Zavolzhsky Motor Plant OJSC was developed and introduced. The motor was in operation for a short time, and it was replaced by no less legendary - ZMZ-402.

Story

With the development of the new GAZ-24, it required a new engine for it, since the GAZ-21 power unit did not meet the requirements. The development was entrusted to the designer of the Gorky Automobile Plant - Harry Voldemarovich Evart.

Unlike the old series, the ZMZ-24D engine received a number of improvements. The design of the cylinder block and the cooling system was changed. But a series of the power unit was no longer produced in 1972, since repairs and maintenance were too expensive.

During the Soviet Union, the ZMZ-24D engine was widely used, and cars with this engine can even be found in the CIS now. In addition to the Volga, the power unit was used on the UAZ-469. On the basis of the power plant, UMZ-417 and 421 were developed.

Maintenance of the ZMZ-24D is simple because the engine is structurally simple. Replacement of motor lubricant, and, accordingly, of the oil filter is carried out once per 10,000 km. In order to increase the resource of the power plant, it is recommended to reduce the period to 8000 km and use only high-quality gas-lubricating materials.
