Gingerbread cookies are a favorite treat for everyone. It is universal and appropriate for any holiday - from birthday to New Year. Gingerbread cookies appeared in the 9th century. Their origin is associated with the invention of bread, so it is not surprising that at first this dessert was called "honey bread".

Both children and adults will be delighted with gingerbread. They will give a special pleasure if you cook them yourself. Baking a dessert can be turned into real creativity, from which all the people taking part will enjoy. Moreover, it is made of any shape. For example, it could be a gingerbread rooster.

Gingerbread Cooking Ingredients

When baking goodies can not do without:

  • flour (approximately 500 grams);
  • 150 grams of sugar;
  • one egg;
  • 1 tbsp. l cocoa in powder form;
  • 200 grams of butter (if desired, can be replaced with margarine);
  • ginger root (1 tsp dry ground + 1 tsp grated on a fine grater);
  • 2 tsp mayonnaise;
  • 1 gram of vanillin;
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon;
  • cloves and black pepper (to taste).

To prepare the icing, you will need:

  • one protein;
  • 1 tsp lemon juice;
  • 150 grams of powdered sugar;
  • 1 tsp food coloring (dye is used in any color: red, yellow, green and not only, it all depends on personal preferences).

In order to get a gingerbread rooster, it will take no more than two hours.

  • Step 1. First, take the oil (it must first be removed from the refrigerator to make it soft), put it in a prepared bowl. Add the egg, sugar, mayonnaise, grated ginger and cocoa to the slightly softened butter. Now mix well.
  • Step 2. Add the ginger, cloves, vanilla, cinnamon and ground black pepper to the resulting mixture. Mix everything thoroughly again. The last meal introduced. The dough should be flexible and pleasant to the touch, so it needs to be kneaded until it looks like plasticine.
  • Step 3. Place the dough in the refrigerator for at least half an hour. After time, we get it and roll out the layer (5-6 mm wide).

  • Stage 4. With the help of a mold or a stencil you get the future gingerbread rooster. We lay out the figures on a baking sheet previously covered with baking paper. We send the dessert to the oven (preheated to 180 gadus) for about 15 minutes. But do not forget to watch the cockerels.

Make icing

In order to get the gingerbread in the form of a rooster, we proceed to the preparation of the glaze. Sift the icing sugar and beat the protein. Pour the powder into the protein gently, in small portions. At the end of the whipping, add lemon juice. It can be replaced with white wine.

Now we divide the resulting glaze into several parts and color them with multi-colored food dyes, necessary for decoration. With them, the gingerbread cock will turn out like a real one.

With the help of glaze, you can make the eyes of the cockerels, color them with feathers and scallops. This is done with a thin nozzle on the bakery bag. After decoration, let the glaze cool. Now you can wrap the gingerbread in beautiful packaging and hang it on a Christmas tree or present it to someone as a gift. Of course, eating them right away is also permitted.
