Kharkiv State Academy of Culture and the Sports Academy of the KhGAFK are unique educational institutions in Ukraine. Training of future culturologists and athletes is carried out according to the European system with the involvement of the best teachers of the country and foreign experts.
KhGAK: Kharkov State Academy of Culture
It is a specialized cultural and art institution of Ukraine of the IV level of accreditation, which in the country has no analogues. European-style specialists are trained here, “armed” with modern methods of obtaining knowledge, self-training mechanisms, self-development and self-improvement.
Kharkov Academy of Culture conducts a pedigree from the Institute of Political Education, formed on 09/10/1929. Over the years, the university has changed its profile and name many times:
- Institute of Communist Education (1931);
- library institute (1935);
- Institute of Culture (1964).
June 8, 1998 the institute was transformed into a state academy.
Faculties
Back in 1996, by decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, two fundamentally new specialties were opened as scientific branches of knowledge: “Culturology” and “Social Communications”. There are not many educational institutions in the country that could boast of such achievements.
Today, the Kharkov Academy of Culture and Arts is preparing personnel in the following areas:
- Faculty of Social Communications. Specialization: information activity, document management; book science, library science and bibliography; social pedagogy.
- Faculty of Cultural Studies and Media Communications. Specialization: cultural studies; management of social and cultural activities; advertising and public relations; museum work, protection of historical monuments; media communication.
- Faculty of Theater Arts. Specialization: acting; directing mass holidays, pop; theatrical direction.
- Faculty of cinema, television art. Specialization: television directing, television operator, camera work.
- Faculty of choreographic art. Specialization: folk, ballroom, modern choreography; physical education and health.
- Faculty of Management and Business. Specialization: administration, management; travel business; social Psychology; philosophy, political science. The Kharkov Academy of Culture has recently introduced a new discipline: innovation management.
- Faculty of Music. Specialization: choral studies and conducting; folk instruments; Ukrainian folk singing; pop, instrumental orchestra; pop song; music theory.
HR potential
HGAK (Kharkov State Academy of Culture) is proud of the teaching staff. Almost all the scientists who work today in the departments have previously passed the school of scientific and creative artistic activity on the student bench. The scientific activity of students in the system of the educational process (preparation of essays, term papers, master's theses) is organically supplemented by scientific research and creative performing activities in extracurricular times. These are scientific circles and research groups, All-Ukrainian student olympiads in various academic disciplines, annual conferences of young scientists, city, regional and all-Ukrainian student work contests.
The high professionalism of the Academy staff is evidenced by the participation of many teachers in prestigious international competitions and festivals of artists. N. Kushnarenko, G. Aseev, L. Starodubtseva, B. Kolnoguzenko (twice) became winners of the annual regional competition “Best Names”.
Rectorate
It is known that the cohesion of the team, especially the teaching staff, depends on the organizational talents of university leaders. Kharkov Academy of Culture is in good hands:
- Rector - Professor, Corresponding Member of the Ukrainian National Academy of Arts, Doctor of Historical Sciences Vasily Nikolaevich Sheiko.
- The first vice-rector is associate professor, candidate of historical sciences Nikolai Nikolaevich Kanistratenko.
- Vice-rector, head of scientific work - professor, doctor of pedagogical sciences Natalya Nikolaevna Kushnarenko.

Student
Kharkiv State Academy of Culture has excellent performance in terms of training. About 50% of graduates today continue to lead various institutions of culture and art of Ukraine. A number of branches have become independent higher education institutions. KhGAK has serious authority, knowledge, the foundation in order to continue to remain the best elite, leading university in Ukraine in the field of culture and continue to train European-style specialists in professions that are largely unique.
The Kharkov Academy of Culture has brought up many prominent personalities. The established student creative teams operate here:
- academic, folk choir, choral ensembles;
- bandura band chapel, accordion accordion ensemble, instrumental quartet “TsimBanDo”;
- folk ensemble "Stozhary", folk groups "Paints", "Gorlitsa";
- pop, folk, chamber orchestras;
- jazz ensembles "Magnifica" and "Big band", instrumental ensembles;
- educational theater, testament folk dance theater, Estet folk dance theater, Step student theater of singing;
- Skoda group, ballroom dance ensemble and others.
In recent years, hundreds of students have become laureates and diploma winners of international, all-Ukrainian competitions and festivals.
KhGAFK: Kharkov State Academy of Physical Culture
The history of the academy begins with the foundation of the State Institute of Physical Culture of Ukraine (GIFKU) in 1930. The school of trainers opened at the institute (1934) was transformed in 1936 into the national Higher School of Trainers. In 1944 GIFKU moved to Kiev and is now known as the National University of Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine.
In Kharkov, the sports institute was revived on March 13, 1979, first as a branch of KGIFK, and since 1989 as an independent educational and administrative unit. The status of the academy was assigned by government decree on September 26, 2001.
Faculties
Kharkiv State Academy of Physical Education offers training at four faculties:
- Martial arts and sports games. The dean of the faculty is Vladimir Ivanovich Perevoznik, associate professor, candidate of sciences in physical education and sports. The faculty of sports games was founded in 1989, since 1991 it has been renamed as sports and pedagogical, and since 1996 - into the faculty of martial arts and sports.
- Cyclic sports. The dean of the faculty is Sergey N. Kotlyar, candidate of physical sciences, associate professor. The faculty was founded in 1991.
- Physical education and human health. Since 2003, the faculty has been headed by Ph.D., associate professor Yu.A. Semenova. He is the assignee of the Faculty of Informatics and Physical Rehabilitation.
- Distance learning, retraining and advanced training. In 1984, the correspondence department started working on the basis of the Kharkov Sports Faculty. In 1999, the correspondence department of the KhGAFK was transformed into a full-fledged faculty of distance learning. In 2013 its functions are expanded. The head of the faculty is a teacher Jim Victor Yurievich.
Faculty of physical education and human health
Kharkov Academy of Physical Culture offers a wide range of training programs. Among all the educational and teaching structures of the university, the faculty of physical education is the largest. It consists of 10 departments:
- anatomy, biochemistry and sports medicine;
- recreation and physical rehabilitation;
- biomechanics and computer science;
- theories and methods of physical education;
- psychology and pedagogy;
- physical education management;
- biological foundations of physical education and sport;
- humanities;
- fitness and sports dancing;
- gymnastics.
Learning and Achievements
Kharkov Academy of Physical Culture and Sports is one of the largest specialized universities in Ukraine. The total number of students at the academy is more than 3,000 people, of which about 2,000 are full-time students and 1,000 are part-time students (including foreign citizens).
22 students participated in the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics. Two won gold medals: Goncharov Valery (gymnastics) and Tedeev Elbrus (freestyle wrestling). Ruban Victor (archery) won bronze.
At the Winter Olympic Games in Turin (2006), the Academy was represented by 8 students. At the XXIII World Summer Universiade (Izmir, Turkey), the Academy was represented by 12 students who won 2 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze medals. At the XXIII World Winter Universiade (Turin, Italy), the Academy was represented by 22 students who won 1 silver medal. At the VII and VIII summer and I winter Universiades of Ukraine, the Academy took the team first place.
Activities
The main objectives of the academy are:
- Training of highly qualified specialists for the sectors of physical education, sports, health, education and other related industries.
- Scientific activity.
- Training of scientists and teachers of the highest qualification (candidates and doctors of sciences).
- Modernization of educational activities in the context of entry into the European scientific and educational space.
- Certification of scientific and pedagogical staff.
- Further training, retraining.
- Facilitating the training of high-class athletes from among students.
- Providing assistance to sports organizations in the establishment of physical culture and sports, national teams of the region and Ukraine in scientific and methodological support.
- Implementation of scientific-industrial, cultural and educational, sports and recreational, publishing activities.
- Establishment of international contacts, strengthening the integration of the Academy into the world educational and scientific space through cooperation with domestic and foreign educational, scientific institutions, scientists, specialists, etc.
