Most young people, especially in the West, since the distant "acidic" seventies answered questions about happiness with a simple and concise phrase: "Sex, drugs and rock and roll." Rock has become an integral part of world culture. The best rock groups are elevated to the face of saints and are untouchable, while others ingloriously earn money by playing on the feelings of people. After all, as Lisa Simpson said: "There is nothing easier than driving a teenager into depression." It will be a question of just this galaxy of “holy rockers,” although it is unlikely that anyone will turn their tongue into righteous and sinless.
When Pepsi and Cola forced young people to take everything from life, and Nike demanded “just do it”, a lot of musicians appeared on the stage. Like a kaleidoscope, the
best rock bands in the world shimmered with different sounds, themes, extreme images. I would like to separately distinguish two groups: “Nirvana” and “Radiohead”.
The autistic and depressive lead singer of Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, has popularized a new direction in music - grunge. He delighted the ears of young listeners with his protest, melancholy, minimalism and a "dirty" guitar sound. The famous hit Smells like teen spirit is still present in the playlists of many teenagers. The best grunge rock bands of the time are also Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth and Pixies. A little later, in the mid-nineties,
no less talented musical experimenters from England appeared on the scene - Radiohead. At the moment, the group has already released eight albums. Three of them received Grammy Award nominations for "Best Album of the Year". Their music is characterized by depressive and philosophical notes with excellent instrumental and electronic accompaniment. The song Paranoid Android may well be considered the anthem of the generation of "zero", confused and attacked by advertising slogans and smiles, consumer ideology and a futile search for the meaning of life. Their god, like the god Nietzsche, died, the "big brother" was defeated by Gorbachev, and their parents still live in a time of a more "red" ideology. Unfortunately, for Russian fans, the likelihood of an eminent band arriving is reduced to zero, as the musicians refuse to go to Russia because of power and state policy towards nature.
Among the heavy music and hard rock, there are such best rock groups as Metallica, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Marilyn Manson, Pantera, Korn, System of a down and many others.
But rock is not just a protest and aggressive reminder that life is far from working in the office, movie episodes, love affection and honest power. Pop punk received its well-deserved recognition. For pop punk, all life is the road from one party to another. Sad, lyrical moments can come across along the way, but on the whole it all turns into one big party. The best rock bands of this direction are Offspring, Green day, Blink182 and Sum41. Avril Lavigne and Pretty Reckless delight the female audience with the sound of guitar distortion and love lyrics.
It is difficult to list all the best rock bands, because there are incredibly many of them, they all made a significant contribution to the development of musical art. Orchestras and amateur musicians replay their songs, their music illustrates films, their statements are quoted on blogs, and their names are immortalized on t-shirts and tattoos. And rock itself is not just music, it is a lifestyle!
