Voodoo was born on the territory of modern Benin more than 6 thousand years ago. The modern voodoo religion, in addition to ancient rituals, contains elements of Catholic Christianity. By the way, such a mixture in the second homeland of voodoo - Haiti - is considered the official religion and one of the many branches of Catholicism. It was in this form that it reached our country.
Haitian voodoo, black magic, terrible curses and necessarily zombies - this is what most know about this religion. And there is not a single positive association. It turns out a kind of destroying everyone and the whole mixture, which is no longer needed for anything other than making a voodoo doll with your own hands and casting a terrible death curse on the neighbor who has gotten. But in fact, not everything is so bad. There are many rituals in this religion that bring wealth, love, and cure for disease. Victims are often used - you can’t argue with this, but those who wish can find a suitable ritual without shedding blood. And the doll itself can be used both to induce damage and to attract a loved one. And it can even become a fun decoration - it all depends on what purpose it is made.
Before you make a voodoo doll with your own hands, you need to consider a number of very important conditions:
1. The doll must be done all alone and away from any prying eyes, especially from the eyes of strangers.
2. It is important to consider the phase of the moon: growing - for attraction, decreasing - for spoilage.
3. All materials of natural origin must be checked for parasites. This will not only allow the ritual to be carried out without interference, but will also save later on the treatment.
How to make a voodoo doll with your own hands in the traditional way
This will require moss (ideally Spanish), a pair of sticks, a rope of natural fibers, fabric (not synthetics), parts of the human body (nails, hair or just his clothes), a needle and thread.
The sticks must be folded with a cross and bandaged in the middle. Then you need to wrap the resulting frame with moss, starting from the middle and moving to the edges, avoiding breaks in the material. Ideally, if it turns out to be done in one piece.
The fabric must be cut into strips of small width and wrapped around the doll, starting from the middle, so that the extremities and the crown of the "head" remain open.
Now you need to make the doll as similar as possible to the person whom it designates. To do this, you need to attach to it the parts that you managed to get. This method was born in Europe, in the Middle Ages. Its origin is unknown. Many associate it with the beginning of the slave trade and the seizure of new territories, but it appeared several centuries earlier. Most likely, it is associated with the biblical legend of the origin of man, in which the Lord fashioned him from clay. Hence the choice of materials for manufacturing: wax, pieces of clothing and body parts (hair, nails, blood or the like).
Wax is preheated. To do this, you need to hold it for some time in your hands and knead well. Then the molding process itself begins. Particular attention is paid to the person, inside you can put a note with the name of the object. All hair and nails need to stick to their places. If it was possible to get blood, then it is placed inside the wax body. From the pieces of clothing of the object is made clothes for the doll. At the last stage, the doll is baptized and named after the victim.
Unlike its African "cousin", such a doll was used only to induce deadly damage. After manufacturing, they could pierce it with needles, execute and even bury it. It all depended on what kind of torment the victim was supposed to experience.
