Pavel Eduardovich Lyon was born on April 26, 1967 in Moscow in a family of scientists. From a very young age young Pasha was interested in literature and his native language and wanted to follow in the footsteps of his parents. Schooling was easy for the future professor. Having graduated with honors from school in 1984, Lyon enters the Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov to the Faculty of Linguistics, namely: to the Russian department, headed by Academician N.I. Liban.

Nickname

Psoy Korolenko discography

The pseudonym “Psya Galaktionovich Korolenko” was not chosen by chance by Paul. While studying at Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov, the subject of the candidate’s dissertation was the works of Vladimir Galaktionovich Korolenko. For the sake of interest, Pavel looked at the note about his birthday in the Orthodox clergy, and found that he was born on the day of memory of St. Psoy. Comparing this fact with the theme of his scientific research, the future eccentric composer created his own pseudonym.

Teaching activities

Immediately after graduation, Pavel Lyon takes a job as a teacher of Russian language and literature at the Humanitarian Institute of Television and Radio Broadcasting, where he has been active for two years, demonstrating a non-standard approach to teaching students, as well as unique teaching methods.

Psya Korolenko everything is everywhere

A few years later, Lyon transferred to an internship at the Lyceum at the Institute of Public Administration and Social Research of Moscow State University, while simultaneously applying for the degree of Doctor of Philology.

Music career

In 1997, Pavel Lyon creates the image of Psoy Korolenko - an eccentric couplet scholar who expresses his views on life with the help of simple music. In the same year, Psoy invents a unique synthesizer playing technique, which consists in successive and inharmonious finger strokes.

From 1997 to 1998, Psya Korolenko actively experimented with versification and the theory of music, and in 1999 he recorded the album "Lomonosov", which was recognized in academic and pseudo-scientific circles.

Actively created material allowed Psoy to begin concert activity. In the period from 1999 to 2014, he prepared several dozen concert programs, evenings and performances, which were a huge success with the public.

Psya Korolenko became famous for his works full of terminology, swear words, allusions and metaphors, often incomprehensible to an unprepared listener.

An interesting feature of the work of Psoy Galaktionovich is the use in songs of several languages at once. Psya Korolenko knows Russian, Yiddish, English, French, Ukrainian well and sings in each of these languages, often using several of them in one song at once.

The accompaniment to simple verses is a uniform composition from the point of view of constructing the melody, performed by Psoy on the Casio synthesizer tuned in accordion mode. However, in addition to the synthesizer, Psya Korolenko is fluent in guitar, piano, flute, oboe and harmonica.

In addition to his own author’s songs, Korolenko is famous for his “alterations” of existing well-known songs and verses, most of which he performs at concerts, not including studio recordings in the program.

A separate part of the work of Psoy Korolenko is archival materials: carefully restored couplets of Russian classics of the early twentieth century, such as Mikhail Savoyarov, Solomon Volkov, etc.

Psya Korolenko, whose songs are an example of witty satirical sketches, refers to his popularity very ambiguously. On the one hand, the professor does not like increased attention to his person, and on the other, he is very pleased to be able to give the audience a good mood.

In 2016, the video of Psoya Korolenko “Everything is the same everywhere” became viral, bringing the performer great popularity precisely as a musician and influencing his further concert activity.
