Caliper painting is a complex of paintwork aimed at improving the appearance of the part and its further protection against corrosion. As a rule, a special paint is used as the material for these works, which is resistant to aggressive environments and large temperature extremes. In today's article we will talk about how the caliper is painted at home and why it is needed.
Color selection
To begin with, we need to decide what shade to paint the part in. The most effective is the painting of the caliper in red. It makes the car more sporty and emphasizes its personality. Orange and silver colors look just as good . It is worth noting that this material must necessarily be heat-resistant, since the disks are regularly heated to critical temperatures. Powder painted calipers are one of the most effective today.
Getting to work
After purchasing all the materials you can get to work. To begin with, you should drive the car to a garage or other room where there is no high concentration of road dust. It is worth noting that when painting the caliper, it is not necessary to remove the brake discs and pads. First, remove the wheels and prepare the surface of the parts for applying material. Be sure to get rid of loose rust. This can be done with coarse sandpaper. If necessary, you can use a steel brush. Then you should degrease the surface and clean it of dirt. Stains of brake fluid from the caliper are also removed (unless, of course, they are there). In order not to apply the material to places such as brake hoses, glue their surface with tape. Only after the surface has been washed and cleaned, and the excess parts are sealed, can you start painting.

It is worth noting that now special kits of materials for such work are widely used. They contain not only paint, but also a hardener, as well as a special spray. This gives a guarantee that the material will be resistant to corrosion and temperature extremes. First of all, mix the components in a ratio of 1/3 and put the paint in a separate container. Apply the spray immediately and wait 5 minutes until it disappears. We apply the paint very carefully, evenly over the entire surface. After the first layer has dried, apply another one on top. Be sure to wait until the material dries (this is approximately 15-20 minutes). Further, nothing needs to be applied. Everything, at this stage, the caliper painting is completed. Now it remains only to assemble the wheels back and remove the masking tape from the brake hoses.
Painting calipers - photo of the result
As a result, we got a beautiful, attractive caliper, which in the next few years will be protected from rust and various kinds of oxidation. Such a detail will become not only attractive, but also durable, since the surface will be less exposed to external factors.
