Laminate is a fairly practical material that is used for interior decoration. People are used to seeing it as a floor finish for various purposes. Recently, however, technology has become widespread that involves the installation of this material on the ceiling surface. As a result, it is possible to create an attractive and unique interior design that is distinguished by coziness and comfort.
Such a ceiling will retain its pristine attractive appearance for a long time, in addition, it does not dust at all and is cheaper compared to finishing with euro-lining. The latter is appreciated by those who wish to save on repairs.
The methodology of the work is very simple, any master who at least once in his life held a hammer in his hands will be able to handle the work. The ceiling sheathed with laminate additionally insulates the room, which is especially true for those cases when foam boards are placed in the cells of the crate. Whereas the grooves need to be filled with mounting foam. This measure eliminates the accumulation of condensate in the cavities of the crate. Damping of such a system can only be feared if there is a leak from above.
Why choose laminate flooring?
Laminate today has become quite widespread among modern consumers for the reason that it is durable and does not provide for the need for repairs during operation. This is true only if the conditions for the use of the coating are met, and the installation work is performed in accordance with all the rules. Using a wide selection, you can purchase panels with different colors and textures that fit almost any interior.
Wizard tip
Laminate on the ceiling looks very attractive. If you also decided to decorate the room with this finish, it is important to make sure that the roof deck is made of modern materials and is reliable. It is not recommended to make repairs using this technology if your apartment is on the top floor of the house and the roof is made of roofing material.
Hammer head
If you want to see the laminate on the ceiling of one of the rooms of your apartment or house, the installation of the material can be done independently. To do this, use a hammer under the hammer, which will allow for sheathing in a short time. Using it to hammer nails is much easier. The craftsmen make such a tool on their own, you can use a punch for this, if there is none, you can use an 8 mm metal bar. Using one emery wheel, one end must be sharpened on a truncated cone; it does not have to be even at all. At its end should form a patch of 4 mm.
After trimming a wooden block, a hole should be drilled for the bar so that the workpiece does not hang in it. It is important to carry out these works in such a way that the element in the wooden handle had to be driven with a hammer. In the hole, the workpiece is driven up a patch. In the central part of the latter, you need to make a mark for drilling, and then on a machine or drill at low speeds, you should drill a hole 0.5 millimeters smaller than the patch itself. A small hole should be drilled under the nail head. If you use a punch, then it will be much easier to perform these works, on the emery you need to remove the tip, and then drill a hole, as described above.
With this tool, the nail can be driven into the blind hole to the end. If you tilt the striker, then the fasteners can be driven completely. However, before use, the fasteners are driven in 2/3. In order for the laminate on the ceiling to look as aesthetically pleasing as possible, it is very convenient to use a striker, which is also useful for other household chores. If we compare the work, where when fixing the tongue-and-groove laminate panels to the crate system, staples are used, with the clamps fastened to the logs using nails and a hammer, then the latter technology will be easier.
Preparation for work
The laminate on the ceiling will look great if the preparatory work is done correctly. The plaster is removed if its layers are swollen, and the thickness is more than 6 millimeters. Then you can proceed to calculate the distance between the elements of the crate, given the size of the existing laminate. Lathing battens can have a thickness of 15 millimeters. For a width of 30 millimeters, it is necessary to equip the crate so that the edge of each panel falls on the central part of the frame system element. In this case, the size of one cell should be 500x500 millimeters.
The cells of the crate do not have to be square at all, they can be rectangular. A rail is laid along the perimeter of the ceiling, the width of which is 50 millimeters. If the ceiling is made of concrete and the wiring is laid in between the slabs, the system should be left untouched. If the wiring is covered with plaster, and after its removal the wires are outside, then they should be covered with small plastic boxes, which are reinforced with drops of building silicone every 12 centimeters.
Final stage of preparation
Finishing the ceiling with a laminate can only be done after the preparation is completed. At this stage, it will also be necessary to mark the future crate system with a pencil, after which holes are drilled for mounting nails, the diameter of which will be 4 millimeters. The distance between the fasteners can vary from 400 to 600 millimeters. The length of the nails should be calculated as follows: 30 millimeters should be added to the thickness of the battens.
Creating a crate system
If you do not know what the laminate on the ceiling will look like, photos of interiors can be considered in the article. Only after it is recommended to start work. At the next stage, you can begin fastening the elements of the crate. To begin with, lags are laid. Close to the row of holes you need to attach a rail on which marks are made. The element is lowered to drill holes for nails. Next, the workpiece rises to the ceiling, and the nails can be hammered to the end. After the lags are strengthened, you can fill the cross-members, for laying wiring in the elements of the crate, you can saw through the grooves in place.
Laminate Installation
Laying the laminate on the ceiling is carried out in the next step. In this case, you need to retreat around the entire perimeter of 20 millimeters, it is for this that wide slats at the edges are used. No room is protected from dampness, it comes from the ceiling. Finishing material may swell from moisture, it will have nowhere to go to the side, cracks will begin to appear. The laminate can be mounted on the ceiling in different ways, if we are talking about a grooved board, then you can use kleimers or small nails that are installed obliquely in the groove of the groove. This must be done before installing the next panel. If you decide to cover the ceiling with a laminate that has a simple edge, you can use small nails, installing them every 25 centimeters, stepping a quarter of the width of the rail from the edge.
Places for installing fasteners should be marked in advance on the floor, nails are driven into the thickness of the panel. To make this work a canopy will be much more difficult. In place, the nails flush fast. A few days later, when the hats darken, they will no longer be visible. If you are thinking about how to fix the laminate to the ceiling, then before installing the next panel it is recommended to lubricate the corresponding sections of the crate with liquid nails, you can use mounting glue for wood, which includes sawdust. With it, it will be possible to smear the seams if imitation of beams is not provided. When the laminate is laid on the ceiling in a wooden house, liquid nails should be selected according to a speck of sample on the lid of the can.
Recommendations for work
Another way of attaching the laminate to the ceiling surface is the installation of supporting wooden beams. If you take into account the moment that small nails are invisible, the method described above is more advantageous. When it is planned to install beams with lamps on the ceiling, wiring should be led out through the holes in the paneling panels. For this purpose, you can use the notches along their edges.
Final work
Laminate is rarely installed on the ceiling in the bathroom , but if you decide to resort to this method, you should choose a moisture-repellent material. At the final stage, the perimeter of the room is decorated with baseboards. These elements are installed using liquid nails, this will be enough for skirting boards. The heads of the fasteners in the holes should be repaired with liquid nails or left as decorative elements.
