Many people believe that mysticism is something inexplicable, inaccessible to human consciousness. However, this word has several meanings that differ significantly from each other.
Mystery and religion
In its original sense, mysticism is a kind of religious practice, the purpose of which is to achieve unity with a higher mind, as well as a set of rules that regulate and explain its meaning. Mystical practice, the purpose of which is to establish a connection with God and divine powers, is called religious mysticism.
In the modern world, people are accustomed to implying by the word mystic all kinds of manifestations of otherworldly forces, fortune telling, occultism, which inspire fear and horror. As a rule, mysticism refers to everything that a person cannot give a reasonable interpretation.
Any religion denies mysticism. At the same time, mysticism also refutes the existence of God. However, if you think about it, the visions of the prophets and saints on which all religions are built are nothing but a manifestation of the mystical. Despite the eternal contradiction of religion and mysticism, most people, believing in God, do not exclude the existence of other inexplicable forces.
Science and mysticism
A few centuries ago, our ancestors could not explain a lot of phenomena from the point of view of science and considered them mystical. They worshiped various elements and stars, believed in forest spirits, deified natural phenomena. However, now scientists have found a scientific explanation for all the processes taking place in nature, and what used to be a mystery to people is now natural and understandable.
It is possible that everything that people today call the word “mysticism” is actually just an unexplored area of human knowledge. Probably, after some time, ghosts, poltergeist, healing and predictions will cease to bring chilling horror to people. And the answer to the question of whether there is life after death will be as simple as, for example, why it rains.
Mysticism is a very broad concept in the philosophy of being, which can be called everything that does not lend itself to a reasonable explanation. As soon as science to one degree or another explains the nature of the mysterious phenomenon, it immediately ceases to be mystical. Therefore, mysticism will exist in our life only until the scientific knowledge of mankind reaches a higher level.
Mystery as a genre of cinema
Mysticism is a genre of modern cinema that unites all films about supernatural and paranormal phenomena. Many people call this category of films horror. Esoteric fans love to tickle their nerves by watching horror movies, so filmmakers are making more and more films in this genre.
To arouse a genuine sense of fear, mystical films are based on hidden phobias of a person. People try to find answers to questions that concern them in mystical films . The more the film is closer to reality, the stronger the feeling of anxiety and horror when watching it.
Mystery and science fiction in the cinema
Films shot in the fantasy genre can also be classified as mystical. The characters of such films are often unknown fairy creatures. They do not bring chilling fear to the audience. But, as you know, fairy tales are based on the stories of our distant ancestors, who could somehow come into contact with such creatures. In science fiction films, there is some inexplicable, and therefore mystical.
Believe it or not in the existence of the mystical is everyone's business. However, one who is able to discern something mysterious and inexplicable in his daily routine makes his life more interesting and brighter. Mysticism is what allows us to approach something magical and expand the boundaries of our own consciousness.
