Design of drywall ceilings: photo options for different rooms

Drywall is a building material that is gaining popularity in the market every year. This is due to its properties - accessibility, practicality, versatility. And in addition to everything, it is very simple to work with drywall. If during the repair of an apartment the idea came up to add an interior partition or an archway, then this will be the most optimal material. You can even align ceilings and walls with it. And you don’t have to talk about design at all - you can safely experiment with unusual elements.

What is drywall?

A sheet of drywall, or, as it is often called, gypsum plasterboard, is a dense construction cardboard, the parts of which are pressed together. Between the two parts of the cardboard is a layer of gypsum and filler. The thickness of the GCR is different, the choice depends on the specific goals of the purchase.

The advantages of drywall over other materials

  • Practical. The sheet itself has a perfectly flat surface, so it allows you to use any finish - tile, wallpaper, paint. If there are any irregularities or defects on the ceiling or walls, the GCR will fix everything.
  • Safe. If you do not take into account the fact that this building material does not consist entirely of environmentally friendly materials, you can focus on safety - GCR has a fire resistance function, which is why it is so appreciated in decoration.
  • Universal. If some unusual design of drywall ceilings is planned (photos are attached to the article), then GKL is what any builder needs. This material is easy to process: it is easy to cut, it can be painted, glued. Everything will turn out beautifully and aesthetically. The most popular option is imitation of natural material, such as wood or brick.
  • Available. Despite the fact that GCR is in great demand, its prices are quite pleasant. If necessary, you can find the required sheet size, and this is at least convenient.

disadvantages

This material has several disadvantages:

  • Instability to moisture. If neighbors live forever in the apartment and always flood, then drywall will have to be abandoned. At the first leak, the building material will lose its properties.
  • Not repairable. There are situations when sheets get damaged during transportation or during work. So, for example, the panel or rails can be restored, but the whole GKL with defects must be completely changed.

GKL ceiling types

There are many design options for drywall ceilings. But all the ceilings from this building material are divided into only three types: suspended, single-level and multi-level. The choice will depend on the space itself.

Single level ceilings

This type of GKL construction is used in cases where the main ceiling has visible defects that must be hidden. The advantages of such a ceiling are that you can even mount it yourself. The main thing is to have the necessary tools. But the single-level design has one drawback - the impossibility of creating an unusual and original design of a plasterboard ceiling. However, if the apartment or house already has a certain style, then the ceiling can be pasted over with thematic murals or simply painted. Also, the restraint of such a design can be compensated for by a properly selected backlight.

A single-level ceiling is ideal for low rooms. The volume of the room is practically not taken, so the space does not seem to be “crushing”.

To mount such a design, an aluminum frame is initially assembled (but another material can be used), after which it is fixed to the main part of the ceiling. The finished base must be sheathed with GCR, as a result of which a perfectly smooth surface is created. It remains only for the design of drywall ceilings (photo attached) to set the backlight.

Tiered ceilings

Multilevel or multilevel is a ceiling in which there are height differences made using frames in the framework of the design decision.

High rooms, which have a lot of free space, are perfectly combined with multilevel ceilings from GKL. The opportunity to experiment with different design options and design any style.

The design of drywall ceilings can be very different. Multilevel constructions can be divided into several types:

  • Zonal. This means that with the help of ceiling levels, a specific place or area in the room is allocated. To do this, use such techniques as elevation changes, various colors, the "game" of the backlight. Thanks to them, you can create several work areas in the room.
  • Diagonal. Speaking in detail, then on the ceiling with the help of GCR a neat arc or diagonal is drawn that visually divides the space. Diagonal does not mean straight oblique at all, you can implement absolutely any line.
  • Framework. Drywall allows you to create the so-called “box” on the ceiling, which resembles a frame structure. Visually it seems as if the whole room is enclosed in borders. As a lighting solution, a large chandelier can be placed in the center of the ceiling.
  • Compositional. If the interior design is made in any complex style, such as the Middle Ages, then GKL can be used to create an arched structure. But it is worth noting that this option "will fly a pretty penny."

Multilevel ceiling coverings are very often used in the interior of a children's room.

When designing plasterboard ceilings, two levels are most often preferred. At the same time, the entire appearance of the room is completely changing. If the room is high enough, then you can not stop and choose three or even four levels. It will look gorgeous, but will have to involve an experienced designer in the development. And if the project is not limited by money, then there are fantasies where to take a walk - gloss, gold plating, etc.

But no matter how much you want to make your interior unusual and memorable, if the room is small, it is recommended to limit yourself to one level, otherwise such a ceiling will create additional bulkiness. If the apartment is of the standard type and does not stand out in size, then the two-level construction made of gypsum fiber is well suited. And if you beat her with light devices, it will turn out just a sight for sore eyes. And most importantly - inexpensive. It is this option that is popular with average families.

Smooth bends and lines - the optimal pattern for a two-level ceiling. At the same time, the general decor of the room must necessarily be combined with meandering drawings on the ceiling.

The main advantage of a multilevel design is the possibility of dividing a room into several working areas without the use of special partitions or walls. It is enough to purchase a few additional fixtures.

Design of suspended plasterboard ceilings

This type of ceiling made of gypsum plaster is notable only for the way of fastening. Single-level and multi-level ceilings differ in that they practically do not occupy space, and the room does not lose in volume. And suspended ones capture about 200 mm of the entire space. Because of this, if you do several levels, the differences in ceiling heights will be no less than this indicator. Therefore, only owners of large enough apartments or houses can afford to put suspended GKL.

The main advantage of the suspension structure is ease of repair. Due to the nature of the attachment, you can easily remove the damaged sheet and replace it with a new one.

The second advantage is that there is a large distance between the main part of the ceiling and the suspension system. Of course, for owners of a small room this is rather a drawback, but if the suspended ceiling is used as intended, then this turns into a plus. The free distance from the designer’s pointer can be filled with wires from light devices, so as not to spoil the view.

If suddenly the owner comes to mind after completing the repair to add a couple more additional fixtures, then they can be easily installed, and the wiring placed in free space between the two frames.

Design of GKL ceilings in different rooms

Depending on the purpose of the room, plasterboard ceilings allow you to create a unique design for each. The material can be used in almost any room. Consider each room individually.

Kitchen and dining room

When developing the design of a plasterboard ceiling in the kitchen, the specifics of the room should be taken into account. Here you can not use gloss or gold spraying, otherwise all the fat will smoothly appear on the ceiling, and it will be impossible to wash it without damaging the entire layout.

It is very difficult to determine the interior, when the room combines two functions - cooking and eating. That is, both the kitchen and the dining room should come together in one “person”. In such cases, it is better to contact the designer. Using a two-level ceiling and lighting, you can separate the cooking place from the place of eating. Get two working areas with clear boundaries.

The above method is applicable only if the space itself is not small. If the kitchen itself does not have a sufficient size, the best option would be one level, but with the allocation of geometric shapes, such as a large rhombus above the cooking place and a large square above the table. This is done very simply - the selected figure is cut out of the GCR and painted in the tone of the interior. It remains only to fix it on the ceiling. As lighting devices, small spotlights are suitable. Instead of painting it is permissible to use even murals.

Hall or living room

The design of the ceiling in the living room made of drywall can be very different. Most often, it is made out using geometric shapes (a square, oval, rhombus, rectangle, and even a triangle).

A large role in the design of the ceiling in the living room made of drywall is played by the color composition. To make the room seem even larger in space, preference is given to cold tones, and if the room is too large, warm colors will help to visually reduce it.

If the room is too large, when designing a plasterboard ceiling for the hall, in addition to multi-level and suspended structures, it is recommended to use adjustable local lighting. For example, it can be spotlights located in different parts of the room.

If the room is not too high, you can choose a combined ceiling design made of drywall and stretch (photo attached) with a reflective effect.

Bedroom

A man entering the bedroom is aimed at a comfortable rest. Therefore, massive awards on the ceiling are completely useless. Designers advise creating a cozy atmosphere in the bedroom with the help of several levels, presented in the form of smooth lines and bends. If multi-level designs were chosen for the design of the ceiling in the bedroom from drywall, then we must not forget that the area should be highlighted strictly above the bed. Moreover, everything should be done in calm colors, without bright contrasting spots. Lighting should be soft and colors should be warm. If the bedroom does not allow you to expand several levels, a single-level ceiling is used, but with a frame frame.

Corridor

The design of the ceiling in the hallway from drywall can also be made different. If the corridor in the apartment is very narrow and long, it is worth giving preference to a two-level view. It will allow you to distinguish between the transition from the door to the corridor, and in combination with a correctly selected floor covering will make the room visually more spacious.
