For a novice driver who is just joining the car fraternity, his own car seems like a small toy with dimensions limited to the size of the driver's seat. From here also there are incidents when maneuvering. Only here comes a belated understanding of why the snake was practiced at the circuit.
In principle, the circuit will not work out the experience of maneuvering in a crazy city stream. However, he will give the necessary basics of owning a car. Going around the chips and columns, many young motorists ironically grin, considering it the children's fun of instructors. In fact, driving at the racetrack under the guidance of an experienced mentor allows the trainee to at least approximately determine what path the car’s wheels take when cornering, how much this or that corner of the car “carries” when performing a complex maneuver. And also - when and how much to rotate the steering wheel so that the car smoothly circumvents the obstacle.
So why do the snake exercise at the circuit so carefully work out? This exercise aims to develop a specific skill when performing complex maneuvers. For a driver who has mastered a snake, overtaking and rearrangement will not be accompanied by a panic fear of catching a nearby car.
How is the snake on the circuit
First of all, it should be noted that to perform this exercise, a level ground is chosen. Chips are marked on the site. Six pieces are installed. The task is to pass between them in a zigzag without hitting a single one. The first chip is the start, the last is the finish. The distance between them is about 1.5 meters.
The snake on the circuit is performed in the following sequence. The engine starts and the car smoothly starts moving in a straight line. After starting the movement, depress the clutch pedal. Further, the car will move by inertia. As soon as the first chip is aligned with the middle of the left front door, the steering wheel should make one turn to the left. The car passes by the chips at an angle of 45 °.
Now you need to go around the second chip. The car continues to move. As soon as it reached the middle of the now right front door, the steering wheel should be turned two turns to the right. In this case, the clutch pedal is squeezed into the floor. The clutch is released after the end of the turn. However, the pressure on the "gas" should not be. The machine will move in engaged gear at low speed. This is quite enough. The rest of the chips to the finish line are also passed. At the finish, the car is returned to a straight path. All! Exercise snake passed!
To consolidate the result and refine the procedure for complex maneuvering, it is advisable to repeat the exercise several times. And even better - work out to automatism. The main mistake when executing a snake is hitting the chip with the rear wheel. To avoid this, you should carefully monitor the chip and begin maneuvering not before it “passes” the front wing. The steering wheel must be turned without jerks and to the stop.
The snake at the circuit should be carried out throughout the entire period of training in driving. This is the only way to acquire maneuvering skills by the time you get a driver’s license. Studying in a dense city stream is not the best option. Therefore, the driver must be prepared for "street" driving.
