Oil pump: device and functions

An engine oil pump is a device used to inject oil into a working mechanism that is pressurized to the surfaces of moving parts. It is designed to increase the pressure in the internal system, and is also used to provide lubrication for working parts.

Oil pump

The automatic transmission oil pump simultaneously performs one of the necessary and most important functions - this is the transfer of oil to a special tank from the crankcase.

The lubrication system in an internal combustion engine plays a significant role and is used to reduce wear, to provide corrosion protection and cooling of rubbing parts, and to remove unnecessary objects to wear them from surfaces.

An electric engine oil pump is a mechanism that performs work from a camshaft or crankshaft, with the obligatory implementation of the correct operation of the drive shaft.

Mainly, the oil pump is divided into two types, depending on the models of the engine on which it is installed, that is, it is seemingly adjustable or unregulated. They differ among themselves mainly by the fact that uncontrolled pumps create and provide continuous lubricant pressure in the system through a pressure reducing channel, and due to the regulation of pump performance, uninterrupted pressure in controlled pumps is maintained at a constant level.

Currently, the most common type of oil pump is a gear oil pump. Its main advantage is that it is repairable, uninterrupted and reliable, and its replacement does not require significant financial investments. Such an oil pump consists of two extremely important elements - two gears, driven and driving, which are located inside the housing. Oil moves through the feed channel into the pump and is injected into the system directly through the injection duct. The total productivity of the gear pump directly depends on the correct operation of the crankshaft.

In addition, it is worth paying attention to the fact that in the process of increasing the pressure of the supply oil of the required volume, the pressure reducing valves located in the channel are activated, which connect the pump suction and discharge cavities, which transfer a certain amount of oil to the absorption cavity.

In this case, the pressure contained by the pressure reducing valve directly depends on the compression force of the spring. With an increase in the maximum permitted pressure, the valve ball exits, and a certain amount of oil begins to be pumped into the suction cavity, thus reducing the pressure in the line. When operating the gears, the distance between the walls of the pump housing and the ends of the gear teeth should be taken into account, since, being located in the oil pump, they rotate in different directions. The pressure created by the oil and passing through the pump depends on the resistance of the line, the viscosity of the oil, the angular, as well as the total speed of the gears.
