It is known that the honorary title of the oldest Russian university is rightfully owned by Moscow State University. The year of its foundation is the 1755th. History of creation
The day when the sociological faculty of Moscow State University was founded is considered June 6, 1989. However, this event was preceded by a number of main stages. The first of them originates in 1960. It was then that a sociological laboratory arose, which began its activity at the Faculty of Philosophy under the direction of R.I. Kosolapova.
The beginning of the second stage can be considered 1968. This is the date of foundation of the department of the methodology of social research, which began to work at the same philosophical faculty. The founder and head of the department was G.M. Andreeva.
A little later, in 1977, a new specialty called “applied sociology” appeared at Moscow State University. She was prepared at the same philosophical faculty. In 1984, the country's main university opened a new branch - Applied Sociology. Its organizer and manager is Professor B.V. Knyazev.
And only as a result of this activity in June 1989 did the sociological faculty of Moscow State University appear. Its creation was approved by Academician A.A. Logunov, who at that time held the post of rector of Moscow University.
The first dean of the Faculty of Sociology of Moscow State University, which made a huge contribution to its creation, is Doctor of Philosophy Professor V.I. Dobrenkov.

This structural unit of the Faculty of Sociology of Moscow State University was created in the summer of 1991. At that time, it stood out for its unusual direction. The fact is that the department was Russian-American and had a clear orientation for active cooperation with foreign colleagues specializing in research in the field of management and business. After ten years of its existence, the department began to conduct active sociological research. Most of them were received from the Moscow Government. And today, the priority direction in the scientific work of the department is the study of innovative approaches to human resource management at the state and corporate levels. Specialists of the department pay special attention to the issue of studying the interaction and interconnection of business and art, which are specific areas of creative activity of people.
For all the years of its existence, the department has prepared and graduated about a thousand students. Graduate students and applicants for this structural unit of the faculty defended 5 doctoral and 40 master's theses.
Sociology of Communication Systems
The work of the department, which was the first in the country to consider the interconnectedness of society, began in 1992. And today, the sociology of communications is one of the dynamically developing promising areas. Such a high interest in this area is caused by the ever-growing importance of information, the increasing impact on the society of information technology and an increase in the number of communication institutions.
Sociology of Family and Demography
This department was founded in 1991. The basis for it was the scientific school of familistic sociology and demography. The results of many studies conducted by the department, used in their work various government organizations. Among them, the Commission for Women's Affairs, the State Committee of the Russian Federation for Family Affairs, etc. The recommendations given by the department’s specialists were taken into account during the preparation of government reports on demography and the family.
